The NFL wrapped up the regular season this past Sunday, and the battle for this year’s Super Bowl title gets underway this upcoming weekend with the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. The four matchups are set, so it is time to take a look at BetOnline’s NFL betting odds as well as the top two or three betting trends for each game as provided by Covers.
Top Betting Trends: Chiefs vs. Colts
Saturday’s action gets underway with a Week 16 rematch between Kansas City and Indianapolis. The Colts got the best of that first meeting in a 23-7 victory as 7.5-point underdogs on the road, and they have been opened as 2.5-point home favorites this time around. The total for this AFC clash has been set at 46.5 points.
Kansas City went 9-7 against the spread this season, and while they went 2-6 ATS at home, they covered in seven of eight games on the road.
The Chiefs have not made it to the postseason since 2010, and they bring a 0-5 record ATS in their last five playoff games into Saturday’s return.
The Colts are not all that much better with a 2-5 ATS record in their last seven games in the postseason, but they are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games against the AFC.
Top Betting Trends: Saints vs. Eagles
The nightcap on Saturday’s slate pits the New Orleans Saints on the road as 2.5-point underdogs to Philadelphia, with the total set at 54.5. A couple of bad losses to Seattle and St. Louis on the road cost New Orleans the NFC South title despite an overall record of 11-5 SU. The Eagles won the NFC East with a 24-22 victory over Dallas as 7.5-point road favorites in Week 17 to finish 10-6 SU on the year.
The Saints are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games in the playoffs, and, specifically this season, they have failed to cover in seven of eight games on the road. The total has stayed “under” in six of those eight games.
The total has stayed under in five of Philadelphia’s last seven home games this season and in eight of their last 12 postseason games.
Ironically enough, the total has gone “over” in five of the last six meetings between the two.
Top Betting Trends: Chargers vs. Bengals
San Diego needed to win its final four games and still get some help in Week 17 to make it into the playoffs. The Chargers finished 9-7 SU to claim the sixth and final seed in the AFC, and this Sunday afternoon they will tangle with the Cincinnati Bengals on the road as 7.5-point underdogs with the total set at 46.5. The Bengals won five of their last six games to win the AFC North at 11-5.
The Chargers have covered in seven of their last 11 road games, and they are a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last four road games against a team with a winning record at home.
Cincinnati went a perfect 8-0 both SU and ATS this season at home, and the Bengals come into this contest with an 11-1 record ATS in its last 12 home games.
The road team in this matchup has gone 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings, and the total has gone over in four of the last five meetings in Cincinnati.
Top Betting Trends: 49ers vs. Packers
In what could be the most intriguing matchup of Wild-Card Weekend, San Francisco will invade Lambeau Field to square off against Green Bay late Sunday afternoon as a 2.5-point road favorite, with the total set at 48.5. These two teams met last season in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, with the 49ers ousting the Packers 45-31 as three-point favorites at home.
San Francisco went 10-5-1 ATS this season with a profitable 6-1-1 record ATS on the road as opposed to Green Bay’s 7-9 record ATS that included a 3-5 ATS mark in eight home games.
The 49ers have gone 10-4 ATS in their last 14 conference games, but the Packers are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against teams from the NFC.
The favorite in this series is 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings, and the total has gone over in six of the last eight games played in Green Bay.
