Syracuse 78, Villanova 62
After getting off to a miserable start that saw them go down by 18 points, No. 2 Syracuse (12-0) battled back to defeat rival No. 8 Villanova (11-1), 78-62, at the Carrier Dome.
The Orange were down by a score of 25-7 with 11:01 left in the first half before they surged back to score 20 consecutive points.
In the second half, Jim Boeheim's ballclub played stellar defense and limited Villanova, who started 5-of-7 from three, from making a comeback.
The trio of C.J. Fair, Trevor Cooney and Tyler Ennis helped the hosts pull away in the final minutes as they won their 12th game of the season against their old enemy from the old Big East conference.
Cooney hit over five threes for the seventh time this season for the Orange.
In defeat, James Bell had 25 points for the Wildcats, who had just one other player score in double digits.
