Are You in Favor of Batista's Potential WrestleMania XXX Plans?

He has been gone since May of 2010, after a string of losses against John Cena at WrestleMania 26, Extreme Rules and being forced to quit at Over the Limit. In just eight years, Batista became a Royal Rumble winner, tag team champion and six-time world champion in the WWE. After having a career that was virtually paralleled by John Cena during his tenure, Batista decided to call it quits with the promotion and pursue other endeavors.

Batista decided to embark in a professional MMA career. After a fight against Bobby Lashley was heavily rumored, it never came to pass. Instead, we had to suffer an exhibition of Batista fighting a sloppy, overweight and out-of-shape Vince Lucero that did not last past the first round. As far as his MMA career goes, that was it.

His acting was more successful. He received recognition for his roles in the Scorpion King 3, Riddick and The Man with the Iron Fists.

Still, none of these matched the success he gained being a professional wrestler in the WWE. Which is why he has decided to return to the company, as it was announced this past Raw that his official return date will be the Raw before the Royal Rumble—January 20.

Coincidence? I think not.

Although there are many different options to place Batista leading into WrestleMania XXX, the primary plan at the moment is to thrust him immediately back into the world title scene. While this is by no means etched in stone—and you can take Dave Meltzer's word, reported by WrestlingINC.com, for it (or not)—Batista is expected to win the Royal Rumble for the second time and face Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXX.

Honestly, as good as it will be to see Batista back, this idea should be shot down for many different reasons:

  • The WWE is basically saying that they do not have enough confidence in Daniel Bryan, nor CM Punk, to headline the biggest PPV in WWE history after they have spent most of the year making other people look good.
  • It has been over three-and-a-half years since we have seen Batista in a ring, so we cannot depend on him to just be ready to main event WrestleMania.
  • It will be an utter surprise not to see John Cena involved in the title picture for WM XXX, and I doubt that Vince McMahon would let that happen (like it or not).
  • Batista's last run as a heel was gold, and he should get the return pops as a face, turn heel at Elimination Chamber and put over Goldberg (if he returns), Big E. Langston or Ryback (the only way to make him relevant again).
  • The Royal Rumble should not be known for superstars to gain multiple victories. It should be known more for an uprising star to earn a title shot, or a main event star who has been wallowing in the midcard scene to regain steam. Batista winning the Rumble is very unnecessary.
