Starting our team of the week this time out is Nicolas Penneteau, who received a rating of 10 from WhoScored on the back of Valenciennes' shock win over Monaco.

The goalkeeper made an impressive eight saves and denied Falcao from the penalty spot late on to see his side pick up all three points.

In front of the shot stopper, Mehdi Benatia bagged a brace in Roma's 4-0 win over Catania, while the Moroccan also made five interceptions and five clearances for his side in the resounding victory.

Despite the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Braunschweig, Hoffenheim's Jannik Vestergaard partners Benatia after he won 12 aerial duels and made four interceptions in the Bundesliga defeat.

Edgar Prib is at left-back after his late assist in Hannover's defeat to Freiburg. The German executed four key passes and made six tackles in the encounter to cap off a notable display.

Pasquale Schiattarella started at right-back for the first time this season for Livorno and impressed in the position despite their 2-1 defeat to Udinese, making six tackles and five interceptions in the fixture.

Sami Allagui is ahead of the Italian on the right wing on the back of his man-of-the-match display in Hertha's 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund, where the German netted the winner having provided the assist for Adrian Ramos’ equaliser in the victory.

Pedro is on the opposite flank due to his nine-minute hat-trick for Barcelona on Sunday, while the Spaniard also helped himself to an assist in the win over Getafe.

The 26-year-old shone in the absence of both Lionel Messi and Neymar, with all three of his shots on target resulting in goals.

Victor Sanchez and Ramon Azeez of Espanyol and Almeria respectively, complete the midfield.

The duo netted two goals between them in wins for their sides, while Sanchez grabbed himself an assist in Espanyol's win over Valladolid.

Gaetan Charbonnier leads the attack after his man-of-the-match display in Reims' 4-1 win over lowly Ajaccio.

The Frenchman was on hand to bag a brace for his side and provided one assist as Reims continued their impressive run of form that has seen them win three of their last four games.

Luca Toni partners the Frenchman following his match-winning performance in Verona's 4-1 thumping of out-of-form Lazio on Sunday.

The veteran Italian has been essential to the newly promoted side's success ahead of the winter break, and his two goals and one assist highlight how pivotal a player he has become for Hellas since signing in the summer.
