Two potential playoff squads were gearing up for postseason football on Sunday night, but only one looked playoff-ready as the Philadelphia Eagles destroyed the Chicago Bears 54-11. We were expecting fireworks from a pair of top-five offenses going against suspect defenses, but only the Birds delivered the goods.
The Eagles rushed for 289 yards against the NFL's 32nd-ranked run defense, headlined by another huge day from LeSean McCoy. Shady added 133 yards to his league-leading total, plus two touchdowns. Nick Foles was flawless under center as well, completing 21 of 25 passes for 230 yards and two scores.
The Bears arrived on the scene with the new “Monsters of the Midway,” but never got their offense going against a Philly defense that was gashed for 48 points a week ago. Chicago was doubled up in offensive yards 514-257, as stars Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Matt Forte were all held in check.
Chicago had a chance to clinch the NFC North with a win, but now must defeat the Green Bay Packers next week to advance to the playoffs. The Eagles were playing for the NFC East championship against the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington next week regardless of the outcome.
Philly improves to 9-6 on the season, while the Bears fall to 8-7. Scroll through our live blog for more highlights and analysis from the rout.
