Real Madrid claimed a precious 3-2 win at Mestalla on Sunday to keep themselves in the title race.
They took the lead twice through Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo but Valencia kept pegging them back, and it wasn't until late on, when a fluke Jese shot crept in at the near post, that the three-point haul was confirmed.
Much for Carlo Ancelotti to ponder, but a win is a win nonetheless.
|Player||Position||H/T Rating||F/T Rating|
|Angel Di Maria||RW||8||8|
Diego Lopez: Helpless for the first goal, could have claimed the second. Not his finest.
Sergio Ramos: Lost Pablo Piatti for the first goal, lost Jeremy Mathieu for the second. Torrid night's work.
Marcelo: Good vertical passing attempts to get things going, but largely unsuccessful.
Nacho: A dodgy game, no chemistry with Ramos at all and out of position at times.
Alvaro Arbeloa: Quiet, very little right or wrong.
Xabi Alonso: Had little impact on the game. Reliable, but unspectacular.
Luka Modric: Had a poor first half but came to life in the second. Some excellent passing on show.
Isco: A bad game for Isco, who took up good positions but lacked service and failed to make the most of the few opportunities given.
Angel Di Maria: The best player in the first half with a goal and an assist to show for it. Ran himself into the ground.
Cristiano Ronaldo: Scored the second goal and looked offside. An ineffectual evening, but should have been awarded a penalty in the second half.
Karim Benzema: Tried his best, but the service was poor and he snatched at his chances.
Jese (sub): Scored the winner, but got lucky with the finish and failed to make much of an impact.
