Christmas doesn't get much better for NBA fans. Not only are most of the game's biggest stars in action as you let your holiday feast settle, but shoe companies like Nike pull out all the stops in designing new kicks for the occasion.
The shoe giant certainly didn't disappoint this season. The company unveiled three new editions of sneakers for LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant.
Unfortunately, fans won't be able to see Bryant's in action when his Lakers take on the Miami Heat. He's been ruled out for six weeks with a fractured left knee, but with his brand already well established, it's safe to assume his shoes will be flying off the shelves when they hit stores on Dec. 26.
LeBron James will be able to sell his shoes with his play, however. Nike tweeted out a closer picture of his brand new Christmas colorway, and it isn't for the faint of heart:
Snow on the leaves? Never in Miami, but this year LeBron James brings the spirit of the season to the beach with this special edition of the LEBRON 11. A chilly mint color takes on a Christmas green with bold red accents and a frosty translucent outsole. The unique geometry of a snowflake combines with the royal palm to create a kaleidoscopic "palmsicle" print.
So there you have it. Snowflakes in Los Angeles and a minty blue to contrast with the usual black and red color scheme of the Heat. These will be a must-have for any collectors who love the LeBron line of shoes.
Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder will take on the New York Knicks in a matchup sure to be watched closely by casual fans. Nike also tweeted out a closer look at the shoes he will be rocking:
Nike once again chose to go with mint in the color scheme again but went with a little more subtle approach for the Oklahoma City star. Here's the design explanation from Nike:
Kevin Durant takes the court in Christmas red with accents of gold and mint. With a twist on traditional Christmas prints, the KD VI features a Fair Isle style Christmas sweater pattern that incorporates trees, stripes, and his number 35. Christmas plaid adorns the collar lining, with decorative detail worked into the metallic red Nike Flywire technology upper and a mint green speckled sole. It's the perfect outfit for this year's festivities.
A not-so-ugly Christmas sweater for your feet? What could be better than that?
Whether you're a sneakerhead or not, the visual aspect of the special edition shoes and jerseys adds to the festive spirit of the day. Even if you aren't a fan of the shoes or jerseys, it will give you something to complain about on an otherwise great day of basketball.
