La Liga Results: Analysis for Valencia vs. Real Madrid, and All Matches
The final La Liga weekend of 2013 kicked off Friday evening when Elche hosted Malaga.
Four games were scheduled for Saturday, with five more set for Sunday. The marquee match of the weekend was Real Madrid's visit to Valencia on Sunday evening.

Valencia 2-3 Real Madrid
Real Madrid finished 2013 on a high note, winning 3-2 at Valencia on Sunday to keep pace with the leaders in La Liga.
Angel Di Maria scored one goal and assisted another, while Cristiano Ronaldo and Jese added one goal each for Real Madrid. Valencia twice pegged back the visitors, first through Pablo Piatti and again in the second half through Jeremy Mathieu.
Jese, a second-half substitute, scored the winner eight minutes from time, though Valencia also had chances to claim victory.
With the victory, Real Madrid moved onto 41 points, five behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Getafe 2-5 Barcelona
Barcelona returned to the top of the La Liga table with a comeback victory, 5-2 at Getafe on Sunday.
Pedro scored a nine-minute hat-trick in the first half as Barcelona erased an early 2-0 deficit. Cesc Fabregas added two goals in the second half, including a penalty. Both players also added one assist each.
Getafe had led 2-0 through 15 minutes. Sergio Escudero put the hosts ahead in the 10th minute, and Lisandro Lopez doubled their advantage four minutes later.
With the win, Barcelona moved level on 46 points with Aletico Madrid atop the table. Barca head into the winter break in first place by virtue of their superior goal differential.

Atletico Madrid 3-2 Levante
Atletico Madrid established a three-point gap atop the table—for the day at least—with a thrilling 3-2 victory at home to 10-man Levante on Saturday.
Diego Costa scored twice for the hosts, who overcame Levante's first-minute opener as well as a second-half equalizer. Levante had Juanfran sent off in the 90th minute.
The win gave Atletico 46 points, three more than Barcelona, who play at Getafe on Sunday.
Andreas Ivanschitz put Levante ahead in the first minute, but Diego Godin leveled on the half-hour mark. Costa volleyed in to give Atleti a 2-1 lead in the 47th minute, but Pedro Rios equalized for Levante nine minutes later.
Costa then settled the match with a 77th-minute penalty to send Atletico to the top of the table.

Athletic Bilbao 2-1 Rayo Vallecano
Athletic Bilbao maintained fourth position with a 2-1 victory at home to Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
Mikel San Jose put Athletic ahead in the 32nd minute, finishing off the goalkeeper, but Alberto Bueno leveled for Rayo in the 61st minute.
Mikel Rico then bagged the winner five minutes later.
Athletic are fourth with 33 points. The defeat left Rayo in 19th place with 13 points.

Espanyol 4-2 Real Valladolid
Espanyol turned in an impressive display to win 402 at home to Real Valladolid on Sunday.
The hosts pressed high throughout the match, forcing Valladolid—who held 59 percent of possession—into making mistakes. Christian Stuani scored twice, while Sergio Garcia (pen., 5') and Victor Sanchez (68') added one goal each for Espanyol.
Javi Guerra (75') and Victor Perez (89') scored late goals for Valladolid to make the scoreline more respectable.

Celta Vigo 1-1 Osasuna
Celta Vigo drew 1-1 at home to Osasuna on Sunday in a match of struggling teams.
Osasuna went ahead in the 17th minute through Emiliano Armenteros, but Celta Vigo equalized 17 minutes later on an own goal.
Celta Vigo are 15th with 16 points. Osasuna are 18th, one point behind.

Villarreal 1-2 Sevilla
Sevilla closed the gap on Villarreal with a 2-1 victory Saturday at Villarreal's Estadio El Madrigal.
Cala and Carlos Bacca scored for Sevilla, who finished the match with 10 men after Cala was sent off in the closing minutes. Jeremy Perbet pulled one back for Villarreal with an 88th-minute penalty.
Cala put the visitors in front with a header in the 24th minute. Bacca pounced on a defensive error to make it 2-0 in the 71st minute.
Villarreal won a late penalty after Cala fouled Jaume Costa in the box, a foul for which Cala was sent off. Perbet converted his spot-kick to make it 2-1.

Granada 1-3 Real Sociedad
Carlos Vela scored twice and Antoine Griezmann recorded one goal and one assist as Real Sociedad won 3-1 at Granada on Saturday.
Vela put Real Sociedad ahead in the 29th minute, finishing from Griezmann's through ball. Piti leveled for the hosts eight minutes later, but Griezmann restored Sociedad's advantage on the break three minutes before half-time.
Vela then wrapped up the points for Sociedad in the 64th minute.

Real Betis 0-1 Almeria
Ramon Azeez scored an early goal as Almeria won 1-0 at Real Betis on Saturday in a match-up of relegation strugglers.
Azeez struck in the fourth minute, finishing from long distance for the game's only goal. Real Betis took 25 shots (eight on target) and held 61 percent of possession but failed to beat Almeria goalkeeper Suarez Esteban.
Betis have not won in the league since Sept. 29, a run of 10 matches.

Elche 0-1 Malaga
Ignacio Camacho scored in the first half as Malaga won 1-0 at Elche on Friday to climb into the top half of the table ahead of the weekend matches.
Camacho converted a header in the sixth minute for Malaga, who won their second straight league match.
Elche had Damian Suarez sent off in the 60th minute for his second yellow card.
