Guys like Brian McCann, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Carlos Ruiz and A.J. Pierzynski were set to be the top catchers on the free-agent market, and they’re all spoken for.
That means teams have to make do with what’s out there, and one guy for them to consider is John Buck.
Buck, a 33-year-old veteran who spent 2013 with the Mets and Pirates, was an All-Star in 2010. But his bat has fallen into a funk ever since then, and he entered free agency after having spent much of 2013 as a part-time player.
MLB Lead Writer Zachary D. Rymer is here to dish on Buck’s free agency. He’ll be hitting primarily on why teams shouldn’t fool themselves with what they’re dealing with in Buck but will also discuss how it’s possible to be optimistic with him and where he might fit.
