Breaking Down 5-Star S Jamal Adams' Highlight Tape

0 of 8

Jamal Adams is a 5-star safety from Texas who is a player that will be a stud in college. At 6'0" and 199 pounds, Adams is a playmaking defensive back who can also play cornerback and outside linebacker.

Adams is a great athlete who has excellent explosiveness out of transition when he recognizes plays. Many schools are after him, but LSU and Florida are his leaders, says 247Sports

Adams shows on his highlight tape why the Tigers and Gators covet him so much.

Player evaluations are based on review of tape at Scout.comRivals and 247Sports.

Play No. 1 0:00-0:17

Adams' opening play on his highlight tape has to get true evaluators excited. Although he needs to be a little lower with his pad level, look at how smoothly and quickly the Texas native moves around in the secondary.

After he displays incredible movement skills and athleticism, watch how fluid Adams is when breaking on the ball. Without taking too many false steps, he cleanly shoots out of transition in a hurry to get his hands on the ball and makes a spectacular return.

Play No. 2 0:18-0:27

This play illustrates Adams' vision from the seams. He comes down into the box after reading a quarterback draw, then delivers a crushing hit that likely made the opposing team think twice about running the ball the rest of the game.

Play No. 3 0:28-0:33

The highlight of this play is the hit Adams delivers on the running back. However, it proves that he has things to work on.

Although his vision in Play No. 2 was solid, Adams is a little late to read the run on this one. Next, he wastes too much time by jumping around instead of attacking the runner to make the tackle closer to the line of scrimmage.

Getting more consistently quicker with his reads to attack the line of scrimmage versus running plays will help Adams become an even better safety.

Play No. 4 0:34-41

There's not much to be said about this play, except it showcases Adams' motor, athleticism, speed and ball skills. He wiggles his way through the offensive front to block the field goal, then displays good concentration to scoop the ball up and return it.

With Adams' speed and explosiveness, it appears he should be able to help off the edges to block kicks and punts.

Play No. 5 0:42-51

Adams' ball skills come into play here. Watch how he confidently attacks the ball at its highest point, almost like a receiver. Adams looks fluid and natural intercepting this throw.

Play No. 6 0:52-1:03

Adams must have seen the opposing team run this play on film, as this play is a true example of a player trusting his instincts.

Versus what is essentially a trips formation, both of Adams' outside receivers release vertically. As a safety, he should be working hard to stay on top of both receivers.

It's slightly possible that Adams' role was to be the "rat" or "robber" in the defense, as perhaps the defensive back at the top of the screen rotated to be a single-high safety in a cover-3 scheme.

However, watch how Adams keenly locks onto the inside receiver running the flat. He simply jumps the passing the lane and intercepts the ball before making another great return.
