It took a heart-stopping finish, but the Florida Gators held off the Memphis Tigers for a 77-75 win at Madison Square Garden. Joe Jackson's 17 led the Tigers in a losing effort, but he needed 19 as his last-second layup try was deflected by the gutty Florida defense.
Casey Prather led the Gators (as usual) with 22 points, while Patric Young had a game-high eight rebounds and eight points of his own before fouling out in the waning seconds. Dorian Finney-Smith had another big game off the Florida bench, tallying 14 points and eight boards.
For the Tigers, GW transfer David Pellom had his biggest game of the year, racking up 12 points, three boards, two steals and a block off the bench. Geron Johnson struggled to score in the first half, but came back strong to finish with 13 points, four assists and three steals.
The win is Florida's second straight over a ranked team after beating Kansas in Gainesville a week ago. It also snaps a six-game winning run for the Tigers.
