Kasimpasa defender Ryan Donk looked out of place to stop a Besiktas attack during their weekend clash in the Turkish Super Lig, but he had an ace up his sleeve.
Moments before Besiktas broke forward, a second ball had been thrown on to the field, coming Donk's way. He picked it up and didn't have time to knock off the field as the play moved on.
Or perhaps he thought to himself that it might prove useful later, because as Besiktas moved into the box, he threw the ball at the other, knocking it out of play and killing the attack stone dead.
It was quite remarkable, and in professional football something previously unseen.
What went wrong? The referee should have stopped play as soon as the second ball came on to the field.
But he didn't—and he opted to give Donk a yellow card for his actions, which on balance, is probably fair enough.
