Are There Two Superheros in Pittsburgh?

Of course the Pirates aren't what they used to be, and they probably won't be what they used to be until they get a real superstar in to take the role of the team leader.

But for now there are two red hot Pittsburgh sluggers who are assuming that role as a partnership.  Xavier Nady and Nate McLouth are the two players in Pittsburgh that are giving the fans and the other players and coaching staff their life.

Without these two guys in the lineup this already rundown Pirates team will be in an even deeper hole and then they might struggle to get even 50 wins.  Between the pitching staff and the inconsistancy of the left fielder Jason Bay, these two guys are like asprin for the headache of losing.

You know, I know, and I'm sure that the rest of the world knows that the Pirates are well due for a winning season now.  I mean 14 consecutive losing seasons is just pathetic.  But as everyone knows, they aren't exactly set up with all of the power of the Yankees lineup or the Red Sox pitching staff, so as you may guess this season is probably going to be another season that we struggle to win 60 games, and be last in the NL Central.

But by now every fan in Pittsburgh is used to this.  Most people in this generation don't remember the Pittsburgh greats like Roberto Clemente, or Willie Stargell.  Well, most kids don't know that the all-time home run king Barry Bonds was on the Pirates when he was a little thinner.

That is what is killing the sport of baseball in Pittsburgh.  Most kids in middle school or high school in Pittsburgh don't grow up rooting for the Pirates. Most of the time its for the Red Sox or the Yankees.  The only thing keeping this team alive is Nate McLouth and Xavier Nady and the greatest ballpark in baseball PNC Park.  The GM of the Pirates better get more players, or i'm afraid that this franchise is well done with their prime.
