In light of the Frank Thomas release by the Blue Jays, I just have to shake my head and wonder why another slumping DH/first baseman is still in the regular lineup.
That would be Jason Giambi of the New York Yankees.
The "Giambino" is currently hitting .109 with two homers and six RBIs in 46 at-bats, and is hitless in his last ten plate appearances.
On Sunday in Baltimore, with the Yankees up 2-0 and threatening with the bases loaded, Giambi had a chance to come through. Instead, the slumping first baseman bounced into an inning-ending double play.
Why is Giambi still in the everyday lineup?
And these are the Yankees, who over the years have gotten rid of the likes of Ruben Sierra, Raul Mondesi, Rondell White, and others when they were struggling.
When you see a team like Toronto dumping the "Big Hurt", you have to wonder why the Bronx Bombers are still trotting Giambi out there despite his big slump.
Why not release Giambi and bring in Barry Bonds?
Wouldn't Bonds, who proved last season he can still consistently get on base, be an upgrade over the "Giambino"?
You can bet though, that the Yankees will do something before long to fix the situation.
How much longer will they tolerate a high-priced player batting just .109?
We'll have to see.

So that means they are stuck with him because of his contract? Too bad, huh?
Yes, they owe him that money whether he plays or sits
They're hoping to get SOMETHING out of him, but it appears that he might be finished
from 3 months ago
Well, I thought he was finished 3 years ago when he was hitting under .200 in the middle of May...

Yep what a waste of 23 mil. You can bet that Joe Girardi gets pressure from above to keep him in the lineup because every day that he sits costs the team 63 K.

I agree with John: "I'll give you $ 23,428,571 reasons why........"
-- aside from that, the argument is should you keep him in to make him earn it (which for the past 2-3 years he can't), or just cut him?
He, Mussina, and Damon should be cut-- the three should form their own backyard baseball league where Mussina walks in 14 runs a game, Giambi hits the occasional ball off the neighbor's roof so you keep him around, and Damon gets stuck catching because he throws like a girl.

I say just cut him.

haha he's been slumping ever since he had to stop using his roids..

Giambi was also hit by a pitch, scored and forced strikes to A-Rod who went 2 for 4. We'll see what kind of pitches he gets today. He also leads the Yanks with HRs, is among the top in runs scored and RBI. With less bats than Abreu. At least SHelley gets to play today, though he and Abreu should probably swap. Then Bobby could flash that gold glove over at first, as opposed to pulling up on fly balls all the time. GO Yanks

first time up, they walked A-Rod and struck out Shelly in the 5 spot. Why are Matsui and GIambi on the bench? THe run producer and the clutch hitter are riding the pine after yesterday?
