Smith had his best game since Week 7 in last week's win over Oakland, but he still didn't have a big game even against the poor Oakland defense. This week, though, things get a lot harder against the Panthers defense, which is allowing just 209.6 yards per game through the air and has 16 interceptions against just nine passing TDs allowed.
Smith had been playing brutally before Oakland cured a lot of what ailed the Jets' offense, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him regress again. Look for the Jets to give him more opportunities to make plays with his legs this week, though, after he rushed five times for 50 yards against the Raiders. If Smith's running ability can be smoothly integrated into the Jets' offense, it could open things up more in the pass game.
