Jameis Winston Wins 2013 Heisman Trophy
Bleacher Report

Jameis Winston has been awarded the 2013 Heisman Trophy. The Florida State quarterback becomes the second straight freshman and fourth consecutive quarterback to capture college football's top individual honor after leading the Seminoles to the national title game.

ESPN College Football had the news:

USA Today's Dan Wolken supplied the full results:

Orlando Sentinel reporter Brendan Sonnone broke the results down further:

NFL Network's Albert Breer added another detail about Winston's win:

Warchant.com added to that:

Winston beat out fellow finalists Johnny Manziel (Texas A&M), who won the the award last year, AJ McCarron (Alabama), Jordan Lynch (Northern Illinois), Andre Williams (Boston College) and Tre Mason (Auburn) in a result that didn't come as a surprise.

Former FSU quarterback and current Buffalo Bills signal-caller EJ Manuel offered his congratulations:

The Alabama native was unstoppable at times while leading Florida State to a 13-0 record and a spot opposite Mason and Auburn in the BCS National Championship Game next month.

He's racked up more than 4,000 total yards and 42 touchdowns while completing nearly 68 percent of his throws heading into the title game. He leads the nation in passer efficiency with a 190.1 rating, more than 10 points higher than his closest competition.

Winston accounted for at least three touchdowns nine times in 13 games. He also protected the ball well, finishing the regular season and conference championship game with just 10 interceptions. It all adds up to the nation's second-ranked offense at 53 points per contest.

When you combine his individual success with the fact that Florida State is unbeaten and finished atop the final BCS rankings, Winston was as close to a slam dunk as you can get in Heisman voting.

After Manziel ended the freshman Heisman drought last year, Winston matched the impressive feat with a remarkable debut campaign of his own.

He's the third Florida State player to win the award, joining fellow quarterbacks Charlie Ward (1993) and Chris Weinke (2000).

Of course, Winston won't have much time to celebrate before continuing preparations for the title game. Even with the Heisman Trophy now in hand, coming up short against Auburn would cause an otherwise sensational season to end on a sour note.

That said, if the playmaking quarterback plays up to the Heisman standard on Jan. 6, the 38th-ranked scoring defense of Auburn is going to have a very difficult time slowing down the Seminoles offense.

Winston is a difference-maker in every sense of the term, and now he's the proud owner of the prestigious Heisman Trophy to prove it.
