Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is one of the smartest in the business, but it appears he was caught out by UEFA rules on Tuesday night.
In the above interview, Pellegrini suggests City needed to beat Bayern Munich 5-2 to top their group, when in fact a 4-2 win in Germany would have achieved that.
The City manager was waiting for City to score and make it 4-2 before gambling for a fifth and introducing Sergio Aguero. As it turns out, he should have gambled at 3-2 to City, with just one more goal needed.
Oh well. He's certainly not the first to be confused by UEFA's rulebook.
