After one of the best matches of the night, CM Punk defeated The Shield’s Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in a three-on-one handicap match at Sunday’s WWE TLC pay-per-view.
WrestleZone.com tells us how he was able to pull out the win:
Roman Reigns spears Ambrose, and Punk picks up the victory!— WrestleZone.com (@WRESTLEZONEcom) December 16, 2013
The bout itself was excellent, but it was clear from Punk’s victory that this match was more about furthering the issues boiling under the surface for The Shield. Ambrose continues to overstep his boundaries with Reigns and Rollins, and it’s just a matter of time before the trio implodes.
Punk took advantage of the group’s miscommunication and stole the win, but this angle was all about The Shield. After watching the go-home edition of Raw where Triple H and Punk came to blows, this match was obviously a holdover until the Royal Rumble.
Monday’s episode of Raw will be the first on the road to WrestleMania XXX, and Punk should be at the forefront of the programming moving forward, especially if he’s going to work a program with Triple H.
Match Grade: A
Few fans expected this unorthodox battle to be anything special, but each of the performers involved showed exactly why they were given this platform. This match couldn’t have been booked any better.
Punk looked as dominant as ever. The former WWE champion is one of the most popular stars in the company, and one of the reasons behind his popularity is his in-ring ability. With the stage to showcase his skill set against three of the best young stars in the business, Punk proved once again why he is the best in the world.
Which member of The Shield has the brightest future?
Despite the WWE clearly teasing tension between the three combatants, each excelled in his role with the trio. Ambrose and Punk have developed solid chemistry in the ring over the past several weeks, and that showed on the PPV stage. Rollins is also one of the better workers in the company and proved that once again Sunday with several incredible spots.
The real winner was Roman Reigns.
It’s clear from the recent booking that Reigns is the star in the trio who the WWE feels has the brightest future, and his performance at TLC only adds fuel to that fire.
While the fans can’t wait to see what happens next with the possible breakup of The Shield, the trio showed once again why they have been one of the biggest forces in the WWE over the past year.
