7 Reasons Why 5-Star DL Solomon Thomas Will Sign with Stanford

0 of 8

Solomon Thomas is a beastly defensive end who is already 6'3" and nearly 260 pounds. With his powerful frame and great strength, Thomas could grow into a defensive tackle in a year or two.

He isn't an explosive pass-rusher, but rather a defensive lineman who excels at punching blockers at the point of attack and stopping the run. Thomas can set the edge with force before shedding offensive linemen to make stops.

With Thomas being such a talent on defense, many college recruiters from across the country have come to see him in Texas. One school to especially watch in Thomas' recruitment is Stanford, as he is considering the Cardinal, according to 247Sports

Following are some key reasons why Thomas could be balling on The Farm next year.

Chance to Join a Talented Future Defense

Stanford has recruited better in recent years than most people realize. Known as a physical football team, the Cardinal have ensured that their talent on defense is going to improve even more on The Farm in the coming seasons.

Stanford has commitments from such 4-star high school defensive standouts as defensive lineman Nifae Lealao, linebacker Joey Alfieri and safety Brandon Simmons among its 2014 class.

Freshmen stud linebackers Peter Kalambayi and Kevin Palma signed with the Cardinal in 2013.

Some say Stanford resides in Palo Alto, while others say the university is actually in Stanford, but anyway you slice it, the school resides in a wonderful location in northern California.

The area is ridiculously gorgeous, plus the weather is terrific throughout the year. Being from Texas, Solomon Thomas could get away from the distractions at Stanford to focus on academics and football.

Culture and Environment

Stanford isn't for everyone, as its athletes have to make a ton of sacrifices. Aside from its impressive academics, the university prides itself on having a mature student body.

That trickles down into the football program, as the locker room and approach of the team is noted for its maturity. Every player on the squad is also an excellent student, which is not always the case at other schools.

Having the ability to be in an environment full of people Solomon Thomas can relate to makes the Cardinal a good fit.

David Shaw

Head coach David Shaw is one of the best college football coaches in the country. It also helps his program that he can directly relate to his players because he is a Stanford alum.

Shaw knows what he wants in a recruit, and it starts with maturity, focus and discipline. The coach with the calm demeanor runs his program thoroughly, which has brought outstanding results.

It doesn't get any better than playing for Shaw.

Great Scheme Fit

Stanford employs a 3-4 defense, which is right up Solomon Thomas' alley. He projects best as a five-technique defensive end in a three-man front.

The Cardinal's defense also prides itself on being tough, physical and strong in the trenches, which Thomas already is at defensive end. There may not be a better college defense for Thomas to fit in.

Stanford has won at least 11 games in four straight seasons while going to four straight BCS bowls. Winning a ton of games every year has to appeal to Solomon Thomas. Heading to Stanford would put the Texan in position to compete for a Pac-12 title every season until he graduates.

Excellent Academics and Education

Among the top schools on Solomon Thomas' list, Stanford offers the best education and academics. The university is known for its academic excellence, and getting a degree from Stanford just about sets a person up for life. This would be an exceptional benefit for Thomas to have when his playing days are over.
