Clemson continues to put together an impressive group of 2015 recruits, as Phil Kornblut of GoUpstate.com reports that 247Sports.com 4-star defensive back Tanner Muse committed to the program on Sunday night.
There were likely many reasons why Muse committed this early in the process, but the fans were the No. 1 thing that really stood out.
It's just a great atmosphere.
They have great crowds for the big games and then The Citadel game had a sellout crowd and that just showed me that they have great fan support. I feel like it's just one of the best colleges in the country. I also have a great connection with the coaches and the players.
This is another home run for the Clemson coaching staff.
Muse is a junior at South Point High School in North Carolina. He plays safety and finished his junior season with 87 tackles and four interceptions. He also was highly successful on special teams.
He had offers from several schools across the country, including Michigan, Louisville and Northwestern, but it appeared that Clemson was always the program to beat. He visited Clemson three times during his recruiting process.
Now the question is, where does Muse fit in the defense?
At 6'3", 207 pounds, he's capable of dropping back into a safety position or lining up as an outside linebacker. He covers a lot of ground and plays well in space. He runs an impressive 4.32 40-yard dash and is always looking to deliver the big hit.
He could also contribute early on special teams and slowly work into the defensive lineup as the season gets rolling.
Regardless of his permanent position, this is another big commitment for coach Dabo Swinney. Muse is also the sixth commitment in the school's 2015 recruiting class and its fourth 4-star player.
