Real Madrid Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of December 9

0 of 6

Now we're into December, it won't be long until January madness descends upon us.

    We know the drill.

For one month in the middle of the season, clubs are allowed to sign and sell players in hope of improving their squads for a relegation battle, a title tilt or just because they can.

Real Madrid are no different, and the regularity with which rumours appear in the media about who Madrid may sign and sell will begin to increase now.

The following slides will keep you in check with who's saying what.

    —LAST UPDATE: Monday, December 10—

Alonso Deal Close?

1 of 6

    Tuesday, December 10

According to, Xabi Alonso is at last closing in on renewing his contract with Real Madrid.

The Basque midfielder's deal is due to expire in the summer, but Alberto Pinero and Ben Hayward suggest he will soon sign a new two-year deal:

"Madrid are prepared to pay the midfielder up to €6 million after tax per year in a bid to keep him at the Bernabeu beyond next summer, placing him in a wage bracket similar to skipper Iker Casillas and France forward Karim Benzema."

If true, and done soon, it could be the most important piece of business do in January.

La Real Coy on Martinez

    Tuesday, December 10

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo (h/t football-espana) Real Sociedad sporting director Loren has left the door open for Inigo Martinez to move to Real Madrid.

Asier Illarramendi made the same move in the summer and Loren has not rulued out that la Real's young defender could go the same way:

“Has there been an offer? We have had indications,” he said about Madrid's interest in the 22-year-old.

“Does Inigo want to go? No. He has not conveyed that. He transmits work, intensity and football. Here in Zubieta he is not going through the halls saying that he wants to leave. Away from here, I do not know what he thinks.”

As with many January rumours though, this is one which would be more likely to happen in the summer.

Di Maria Update

3 of 6

    Monday, December 10

Sky Sports have picked up on Claudio Ranieri's comments to reporters regarding Angel di Maria, which he made after Monaco's match on Sunday:

"Indeed, he is a player I am interested in. But I don't think he will join us. It is just rumours."

And Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti gave a similar verdict when he spoke to press ahead of Los Blancos' Champions League match in Denmark on Tuesday night, via

"I gave my OK for Ozil's exit. It's not the same with Di Maria, he is a very important player for this team. Di Maria hasn't talked with me or the club. He is happy and calm but my office door is always open if he needs to talk."

There are sure to be more twists in the story as January draws closer.

PSG Keen on Sergio Ramos?

4 of 6

    Monday, December 9

According to reports in France (h/t Football Espana), PSG are keen to sign Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.

Le10Sport suggest that representatives from the French club have already spoken to people at Los Blancos about the possibility of a deal being struck.

It comes on the back of November's story that stated Ramos had fallen out with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

As reported in Marca, Ramos has since put water on those reports by giving his shirt to Perez after a recent Madrid game.

However, rumours about his future are still rife.

How Do You Solve a Problem Like Angel Di Maria?

5 of 6

    Monday, December 9

Angel di Maria and stories linking him with a move away from the Bernabeu are two themes we're going to become well acquainted with in the coming weeks.

Marca say he's "on the warpath" and that he wants to join Monaco.

The story suggests that he feels "playing well is not enough to start for Real Madrid, that he does not enjoy the same level of support as other players and that the time has come for him to pack his bags."

However, AS say Madrid have no intention of letting him leave:

The club say the squad has been closed since the summer and that if he left the team would be weakened, especially if an attacking player was to pick up a long term injury between now and the end of the season.

If both reports are correct, then one party could be left upset come January.

Apparently Los Blancos are prepared to splash £60 million to land the Argentinian.

However, the same story also reports that Luis Suarez is emerging as a strong candidate in second place for a move to the Spanish capital.
