Head coach Urban Meyer found at least one slice of solace after his team's hopes and dreams for 2013 went up in smoke.

The Ohio State Buckeyes won 24 straight games under head coach Urban Meyer, and as they sat at No. 2 in the latest BCS rankings, a win over No. 10 Michigan State in the Big Ten title game would have propelled them to the BCS National Championship Game. The prior season, the Buckeyes never got their shot at the championship, as an NCAA investigation over improper benefits led to a postseason ban.

Everything was in place for redemption. The team was going to get their shot. Only issue? Michigan State didn't get the memo, beating Ohio State, 34-24, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
