Step Aside Messi, Ronaldo, Fabregas and Co: Iniesta Is the World's Best

Captain CharismaCorrespondent IMay 29, 2009

After watching the footballing masterclass that Barcelona gave Manchester United—and enjoying it very much due to the fact that I am an avid Arsenal fan—I saw on display some of the worlds best footballers. Actually I saw the best footballer in the world in my eyes. No, not Lionel Messi, but one Andres Iniesta.

Don't get me wrong, Messi's performance was excellent like it has been for the whole of this historic season for the Catalan giants. His movement, pace and positioning were flawless, as was his header which would put any of the worlds best strikers to shame.

However, for me the little maestro know as Andres Iniesta or Don Andrés as known my the Catalan press stole the show. His vision, sublime touch and most of all exquisite passing, including his assist for the first goal, were just a joy to watch and I couldn't help but be in awe on how good of a player he is.

Being an Arsenal fan, I have the natural tendency of saying that our own Cesc Fabregas is the best the world has to offer but, and this may incur the wrath of many Arsenal fans, but I would rather have Iniesta wearing an Arsenal shirt than Fabregas.

Preferably I would want both, but if I had to choose El Ilusionista would come out on top. He just has that something special that I knew was there but only fully realized during his masterful performance against Manchester United.

I only hope that when the FIFA World Player of the Year is announced, it is not the name of Barcelona's Lionel Messi that is called out but the name of future Arsenal player (one can dream cant' he?) Andres Iniesta that is indeed voted Player of the Year.
