Various news sources, such as The Daily Star, have reported that Manchester United are pursuing Benfica's Ezequiel Garay, but Express says that the Red Devils are foundering in their chase.

Garay would help compensate for the frequent absence of the aging and oft-injured duo of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. The Benfica center back does not lack experience at the top level and would add depth to a mightily struggling United side.

Yet Garay said he is happy right where he is. He is cup-tied in the Champions League anyway and would thus not be able to help United in their European campaign.

Because the Red Devils' greatest area of need is in midfield and not at the back, this deal looks like a long shot, though not impossible.
