Following Thursday's 8-6 loss to the division leading Los Angeles Dodgers, several Rockies players speculated this would be one of Hurdle's last games as the Colorado Rockies manager.
The Rockies are 18-28, last in the National League West by two games, which is why this firing would be long over due.
The Rockies are 11th in the NL in batting average, 14th in ERA, and dead last in opponent's batting average, giving up a .284 average.
The Rockies were swept by the Dodgers again this year, and have lost seven of their last 11 games. The team has given up 31 runs to the Dodgers in their latest three game series, including a 16-run blowout in the first game.
I think firing Hurdle would be the best move for the franchise. Other than the Rockies' 2007 postseason run, Hurdle hasn't done much to secure his job security with the Rockies.
Hurdle has managed 1159 games for the Rockies, and has won just 534 of them, posting a .460 win percentage. He has also finished fourth or worst in the NL West five times out of the seven seasons he's been with the club.
No candidates for the Rockies' interim manager have sprouted.
