Roberto Martinez has launched his Everton career in impressive fashion, masterminding the Toffees' second best start in the Premier League era.

The right business in January's transfer window has the potential to propel a good start on to a memorable finish.

Martinez's squad have already had to negotiate significant injuries to Leighton Baines, Darron Gibson and Arouna Kone, and this transfer window may be needed for reinforcements.

At the same time, the likes of Baines and one or two others are sure to be courted by other sides seeking their own amendments.

Leading up to January, this is where you can find your weekly dose of transfer rumours and stories concerning Everton. Be sure to check back later in the week for any further developments.

New Faces in January

Everton will look to bolster their squad in January, as reported by Carl Markham in The Independent.

The Toffees have lost Arouna Kone and Darron Gibson to injury and will be looking  to replace them.

    Markham quotes Martinez as saying:

We are going to use the window in January to try to help the team because we lost two players for the long term.

Arouna and Darron are two very important players for us so we will try to see if we can identify one or two players that can help the group.

We have been working hard to identify who can help the group and that is what we are looking for in January.

With Romelu Lukaku and Nikica Jelavic the only senior options up front, finding a striker looks the Toffees' most pressing need.

No Move for Barry, Yet

Gareth Barry has been on of Everton's best players this season, but there are no plans to make his loan deal permanent just yet, as Roberto Martinez revealed to the club's official website.

The Catalan was quoted as saying:

It's a situation that I want to just let go. I want Gareth to carry on enjoying his football and then at the end of the season it will be time to sit down and assess how his season has gone.

I couldn't be happier with the manner that Gareth has been performing and (he's been) setting incredible, incredible levels.

The Toffees are unbeaten with Barry and haven't won without him, highlighting his major impact this season.

The England midfielder's contract expires next summer and acquiring him on a permanent basis already seems like essential business.

Aiden McGeady was linked with an Everton transfer for much of the summer and it seems those rumours have resurfaced, once again.

Mike Whalley of ESPN FC predicts the Toffees making a move this January, although the fact his contract expires next summer means that might only be on a pre-contractual basis.

Martinez is renowned for his admiration of wingers, but McGeady might struggle for playing time in the Toffees' current squad.

Everton are interested in Camden Buescher, according to Adam Crafton of the Daily Mail.

The Under-17 striker currently plays for the Pacesetter academy in Ohio but recently had a trial at Finch Farm.

He's now returned to America but the Toffees are thought to be weighing up a move.

The latest round of Leighton Baines-to-Manchester United rumours appear in Tuesday's papers.

Mark Ogden of The Telegraph and The Independent's Clive Burrows both report on United's interest in the player. Burrows claims United are "weighing up" an offer while Ogden describes Baines as a "likely target."

David Moyes tried to land his former left-back right up until the summer transfer window expired and seems likely to resume his efforts come January.

    Tuesday, December 3

Yeovil are keen on extending the stay of Everton loanee, John Lundstram, according to Chris Sweet in The Western Gazette.

The England Under-20 international made an immediate impact following his loan move, grabbing an assist in a surprise 3-0 win away at Watford.

Sweet anticipates the Glovers attempting to extend his one-month loan until the end of the season.

The End for Heitinga?

Sky Sports highlights Johnny Heitinga's recent links with Fiorentina, and captures Roberto Martinez's response to the rumours:

Johnny has been an incredible professional since day one. He has been a big influence in the way we wanted to work.

Johnny is a top footballer and we can understand if he doesn't play many minutes we will try to see if we can help him in January.

But ideally I would like Johnny to start playing and have a big role on the pitch as much as he has off it.

The Dutch international seems very much surplus to requirements this season. He is yet to play a minute in the Premier League and appears below Phil Jagielka, Sylvain Distin and John Stones in the pecking order.

With his contract expiring next summer, it seems only a matter of time before he's playing elsewhere.

Everton are keeping tabs on Wycombe Wanderers' Kortney Hause, according to Sky Sports' Pete O'Rourke.

The 18-year-old centre-back has been impressing in League Two and has already attracted interest from West Brom, Huddersfield and Blackpool.

Hause is a former member of West Ham's academy. O'Rourke anticipates the Toffees making a move come January.
