Cubs-Pirates: Chicago Hammers Pittsburgh 13-1
The Cubs hammered the Pirates 13-1 on Saturday. Derrek Lee started off the scoring with a two-run home run in the first inning off Tom Gorzelanny.
Geovany Soto drove in another run in the second with a double to left. In the third inning, the Cubs got four runs, beginning when Mark DeRosa singled to score Aramis Ramirez.
Shortly thereafter, Kosuke Fukudome scored after some nifty base running. He stole third and DeRosa stole second, then Fukudome came in to score. DeRosa later scored on a wild pitch to put the Cubs up 7-0.
The Cubs scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Fukudome walked with the bases loaded, allowing Ryan Theriot to score. DeRosa's sacrifice fly scored Daryle Ward. Ronny Cedeno singled in Ramirez and Fukudome.
Daryle Ward capped the scoring for Cubs with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to put the Cubs up 13-1.
Jason Marquis allowed allowing only one run on six hits in six innings. He struck out seven to pick up his first win of the season.
The Pirates lone run came off the bat of Freddy Sanchez, who doubled in the fifth to score Nate McLouth.
Pirates starter Tom Gorzelanny struggled mightily, lasting only 2 2/3 innings. He allowed seven earned runs on six hits, walking 4. The Cubs took advantage of the Pirates' poor pitching, which included 10 walks.
Today, the Cubs will look to finish off the sweep when Ryan Dempster will takes the mound against left-hander Zach Duke. Game time is set for 1:20 pm CT.
