Former WWE Superstar Hulk Hogan has been connected to rumors about a possible match at WrestleMania 30, but world heavyweight champion John Cena told TMZ that he supports Hogan’s recent decision to not wrestle at the company’s biggest show.

While Cena cites Hogan’s age (60) and mobility as a cause for concern in a possible return to the fast-paced WWE, he claims that a proposed bout between the two legends would be a “dream match.”

Instead of changing the subject there, though, Cena adds fuel to the fire by claiming that the WWE needs Hogan for the 30th anniversary of WrestleMania. The champion sounded genuine about his desire to have the Hulkster at the biggest show in company history, and he never completely closes the door on the possibility of an in-ring return.

Cena may have shown Hogan unwavering support in his decision not to wrestle, but there is no question that he and WWE officials are posturing to bring one of the biggest names in the history of the sport back for the company’s most important pay-per-view.

Whether it’s wrestling or playing a different role, Cena’s comments indicate that he is advocating for Hogan to return. As much as many fans would like this to be the end of the conversation, these comments are only going to create more speculation surrounding why he will be at the event.

The WWE knows that one of the biggest possible matches left to book for Cena as the face of the company is against Hogan, formerly the face of the WWE.

Even at his age, Hogan is still one of the most recognizable names in the industry. There will be a genuine concern about his ability to stay healthy and contribute to an acceptable match, but that’s where Cena’s underrated in-ring ability could make this happen.

As the world champion showed in his bouts against The Rock, he can help carry a part-time star while still protecting him. A match between Hogan and Cena would be slow, but as long a Hogan is physically capable of telling a story in the ring like he did against The Rock at WrestleMania 18, this is still a one-on-one bout the fans would support.

Hogan and Cena are the two biggest stars of their respective generations, and a headlining match between the men would be a perfect addition to an already thrilling event.

The bout between Cena and Hogan may never come to fruition, but the fact that Cena addressed the topic so openly lends even more credence to the notion that the WWE may have something boiling below the surface.
