Wolverhampton Wanderers have taken to Twitter to confirm that Leigh Griffiths was paying tribute to a family member, not Family Guy, on Tuesday.

Griffiths scored the opener for Wolves against Tranmere Rovers and revealed a T-shirt under his match jersey, reading "RIP Brian."

Rumours were abound on social media that it was a reference to Brian Griffin, the dog from animated comedy series Family Guy, who was controversially killed off in the U.S. on Sunday.

However, Wolves denied this on their official Twitter account.

A memorial page to Griffin has had over three quarter of a million likes on Facebook.
