On the recommendation of Luis Suarez, Brendan Rodgers has been urged to sign the Uruguayan's countryman Kevin Mendez this winter.

The Mirror's John Cross reports that Liverpool scouted the 17-year-old at last year's Under-17 World Cup along with a host of other European giants.

An excerpt from Cross' article reads:

"It is believed that the Reds could get him for as little as £3m, but they will have to see off strong competition from a host of European heavyweights to do so, including Barca."

With that sort of interest floating around the Penarol teen, Rodgers will certainly have a fight on his hands if he is to land Mendez's signature.

Sebastian Coates is another Uruguayan to have joined the Merseyside outfit in recent years, but Liverpool fans will be hoping that forward Mendez can have a more immediate impact should he move to the English top flight.

Should Liverpool chase up Mendez's services? Let us know in the poll above.
