College Football Recruiting 2014: Top 25 Stars, Week 12 Edition
National high school football stars stepped up this past weekend, pushing their respective squads one step closer to state championship glory. Several premier prospects from an impressive 2014 recruiting class proved they belong on the big stage with outstanding efforts.
We continue our weekly review of college recruits, focusing on the players who rose to the occasion with everything on the line.
25. 3-Star CB Kevin Griffin (Concord, Calif.)
De La Salle defensive back Kevin Griffin continues to be a catalyst for one of the nation's top teams. The 6'1", 180-pound cornerback impressed in a 46-0 win over Granada.
He collected three solo tackles and intercepted a pass, which he returned 25 yards, per MaxPreps. Griffin is committed to Washington State.
24. 2-Star WR Brodrick Yancy (Bradenton, Fla.)
Versatile athlete Brodrick Yancy was forced to play quarterback for Manatee following an injury to his teammate. He nearly led his team to a playoff victory by showing of an intriguing skill set behind center.
Yancy threw for 113 yards while adding 65 yards and a touchdown on the ground in a 17-15 loss to Fort Pierce Central, per Rivals.com. He is committed to Temple.
23. 4-Star RB Varshaun Nixon (Austin, Texas)
22. 3-Star WR Lamar Parker (Miami, Fla.)
Parker grabbed a touchdown pass to help propel his team. He committed to West Virginia in June.
21. 3-Star WR Shay Fields (Bellflower, Calif.)
St. John Bosco playmaker Shay Fields starred in a southern California postseason victory over Tesoro. The wide receiver recruit caught four passes for 83 yards during a 55-7 win, per the Long Beach Press-Telegram.
He hauled in two touchdowns in the contest. Fields committed to USC last month.
20. 2-Star RB Sherman Alston (Montvale, N.J.)
Alston gained 116 total yards, including a touchdown run, while lining up in different positions. He committed to Boston College in August.
19. 3-Star S Glen Ihenacho (Gardena, Calif.)
Junipero Serra standout Glen Ihenacho delivered a momentum-shifting play in his team's 40-7 victory over Buena. The 6-foot, 185-pound prospect blocked a punt, recovered the ball and returned it for a touchdown, per the Daily Breeze.
Ihenacho ended his recruitment last week. The safety committed to Oregon.
18. 5-Star RB Dalvin Cook (Miami, Fla.)
Miami Central star Dalvin Cook continues to leave defenders in his wake. The 5'11", 190-pound running back rumbled for two touchdowns in a 59-14 demolishing of Dillard in regional semifinal action, according to the Miami Herald.
He managed 78 rushing yards on 12 carries and added a 60-yard interception return for a touchdown. Cook is committed to Florida.
17. 3-Star CB Mike Stevens (Davidson, N.C.)
16. 3-Star QB Kendrick Doss (Florence, Ala.)
Florence High School suffered a narrow playoff defeat, but quarterback Kendrick Doss did his best to keep his team alive in a matchup versus national power Hoover. The 6'2", 218-pound prospect passed for 189 yards and a touchdown in a 22-21 loss, per AL.com.
Doss added 60 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. He committed to Ole Miss in June.
15. 5-Star CB Adoree' Jackson (Gardena, Calif.)
Coveted athlete Adoree' Jackson makes an impact in a variety of ways. He showed off that versatility in a 40-6 playoff win over Buena.
The Junipero Serra star scored the first touchdown of the contest on a 17-yard reception and later added a 15-yard scoring run, according to the Daily Breeze. He is weighing offers from Florida, USC, LSU and Tennessee, among others.
14. 4-Star WR Adonis Jennings (Haddonfield, N.J.)
Timber Creek wide receiver Adonis Jennings contributed greatly to an unparalleled passing success in New Jersey sectional semifinal action. The 6'3", 185-pound playmaker tallied more than 150 yards and two touchdowns in a 47-23 win over Kingsway, per NJ.com.
Jennings' quarterback Dan Williams set a new state record for passing yards in the victory (532 yards). The receiver decommitted from Rutgers last week and is considering offers from Iowa, Arkansas, Temple and Pittsburgh.
13. 5-Star RB Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif.)
Freedom High School running back Joe Mixon was unable to carry his team deeper into the postseason, but he put on another scintillating performance. The coveted prospect picked up 237 total yards in a 27-21 loss to Pittsburg, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Mixon had a 39-yard touchdown reception and rushed for a 47-yard score. He is strongly considering Wisconsin, California and Oklahoma.
12. 4-Star RB Joseph Yearby (Miami, Fla.)
Running back Joseph Yearby helped push Miami Central into the final round of its regional bracket with a dominant performance against Dillard. The 5'9", 190-pound playmaker gained 157 yards on 16 carries, according to the Miami Herald.
Yearby scored three times in a 59-14 victory. He is committed to Miami.
11. 5-Star RB Leonard Fournette (New Orleans, La.)
He scored twice, including an 88-yard sprint. Fournette is weighing offers from Alabama, LSU, Miami and Florida, among others.
10. 4-Star QB Jacob Park (Goose Creek, S.C.)
Stratford High School quarterback Jacob Park helped his team advance in the postseason, posting impressive numbers in a 30-14 win over South Florence. He completed 12 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns, according to The Post and Courier.
Park also rushed for 88 yards. He is committed to Georgia.
9. 3-Star QB Nick Jeanty (Hollywood, Fla.)
Miramar High School star Nick Jeanty led his squad to a dominant win over Deerfield Beach. The quarterback threw two touchdowns and rushed for another score in a 40-6 victory, according to the Sun Sentinel.
Each of his touchdowns occurred in the first half. Jeanty is considering offers from Eastern Michigan, Ohio and UCF.
8. 3-Star RB Jonathan Hilliman (Jersey City, N.J.
St. Peter's Prep running back Jonathan Hilliman carried his squad to a state semifinal win. The 6'1", 210-pound prospect tallied 199 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a 34-0 win over St. Augustine, according to NJ.com.
Hilliman's evening featured a 54-yard touchdown run. He is committed to Rutgers.
7. 3-Star QB Mason Rudolph (Rock Hill, S.C.)
Northwestern High School quarterback Mason Rudolph delivered another commanding performance to push his squad along in state playoffs. The 6'4", 210-pound prospect completed 15 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns in a 39-7 win over York, per the Enquirer-Herald.
Rudolph also rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns. He is committed to Oklahoma State.
6. 3-Star RB Harris Ross (Pittsburg, Calif.)
5. 4-Star S Jaleel Wadood (Lakewood, Calif.)
Wadood grabbed three touchdown receptions. He decommitted from Cal last week and is now focused on USC and UCLA.
4. 5-Star WR Speedy Noil (New Orleans, La.)
Edna Karr High School playmaker Speedy Noil was up to his old tricks in a playoff win over Crowley. The versatile offensive weapon gained 160 total yards in the first half of a 55-7 win, per NOLA.com.
He scored three first-half touchdowns, including a 95-yard run. Noil is considering offers from Florida, Texas A&M, LSU and USC.
3. 2-Star ATH Desmon White (DeSoto, Texas)
DeSoto quarterback Desmon White used his dual-threat capabilities to lead the Eagles past Coppell in a thrilling playoff matchup. He tallied 160 yards and three touchdowns through the air in a 34-30 win, per MaxPreps.
White also rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. He is committed to TCU.
2. 4-Star QB Treon Harris (Miami, Fla.)
Booker T. Washington quarterback Treon Harris stepped up to lead his squad to a victory over University. He helped his team stay unbeaten with six total touchdowns tosses in a 45-17 win, per MaxPreps.
Harris completed 11 passes for 241 yards and added 143 yards on the ground. He is committed to Florida State.
1. 5-Star QB Will Grier (Davidson, N.C.)
Dynamic Davidson Day High School star Will Grier generated explosive statistics in a playoff win over Harrells Christian Academy. The quarterback completed 32 passes for 599 yards and seven touchdowns in a 69-28 win, according to MaxPreps.
Grier also rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown. He is committed to Florida.
