While Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron has been overlooked as a Heisman candidate for much of the 2013 college football season, his mother took the time to remind voters that he should be a top consideration.
Dee Dee Bonner has been one of the more famous fans at Crimson Tide games over the past few seasons, always in attendance cheering on her sons, AJ and Corey. She recently posted on Twitter a moving picture of the entire family celebrating Senior Day on Saturday:
However, she is also making news for her latest Twitter avatar, which features her doing a Heisman pose in the middle of the field:
Although it might not have been her intention, this image becomes a reminder that McCarron should remain in the conversation for the most prestigious individual award in the sport.
Despite being the quarterback of the No. 1 team in the country, the senior has been overlooked by fellow signal-callers who put up bigger numbers on a weekly basis. Players like Jameis Winston, Johnny Manziel, Bryce Petty and Marcus Mariota have all garnered more attention during the season.
Of course, McCarron benefits from being a part of an excellent team. Still, it is important not to overlook what he has done throughout the season and his entire career.
After leading the nation in passer efficiency last season, the quarterback once again ranks in the top 10 in that category in 2013. His 23-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio is among the best in the country, and he does everything necessary to help his team win.
While he does not throw for more than 300 yards every week or boast flashy stat lines most of the time, he is not asked to do that. Instead, the offense is able to run the ball more often in what are usually blowout games.
Heisman voters need to take a note from McCarron's mother and start thinking about the Alabama quarterback as a legitimate candidate for the award.
