The Miami Dolphins dropped a heart-breaker to the Carolina Panthers in front of the home crowd this Sunday, dropping to a 5-6 record and missing an opportunity to take command of the sixth and final playoff spot in the AFC.
The Dolphins got out to a fast start, running up to a 13-3 lead in the first half. The Panthers were able to chip away at the lead by putting together a field goal drive in the final minute of the half. Carolina received the kickoff to start the second half and executed a time-consuming touchdown drive to bring the game to within three points.
Both teams fell into a stalemate at that point. This lasted until the very end of regulation when the Panthers executed an 80-yard touchdown drive to take a four point lead with less than a minute left in regulation.
Miami attempted to answer with a drive of their own, but had no timeouts remaining after having used several on the previous drive trying to prevent the Panthers from scoring a go-ahead touchdown. Tannehill threw one more deep pass to receiver Mike Wallace, but Wallace could not clutch the football as it passed through his outstretched hands.
