Texas will be short two players when it takes on Texas Tech next week on Thanksgiving.

The team has suspended offensive weapon Daje Johnson and fullback Chet Moss, head coach Mack Brown announced Thursday, via The Austin American-Statesman’s Randy Riggs:

Longhorns wide receiver/running back Daje Johnson and fullback Chet Moss have been suspended for next week's Thanksgiving game against Texas Tech, coach Mack Brown announced Thursday.

Texas said the pair was suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules.

This marks the second time that Johnson, a sophomore, has been suspended for violating team rules. He was previously suspended last season before his first career game at Austin.

It’s a disappointing turn for Johnson, who has had a productive second year. He’s caught 22 passes for 168 yards and added another 121 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Johnson has also been an asset on special teams, returning 16 punts for 172 yards and a score and 14 kicks for 267 yards.

He’ll be most remembered for his spectacular punt return against Oklahoma during the Longhorns’ 36-20 victory over rival Oklahoma on Oct. 12.

Sophomore Kendall Sanders is likely to replace Johnson on kickoff returns with junior wide receiver Jaxon Shipley handling punt return duties.

On the other hand, Moss hasn’t seen much playing time this season.

A junior, he’s managed to play his way onto the kickoff coverage team. Moss has tallied three tackles on the year—one more than he made in his first two seasons combined.

However, Moss hasn’t recorded a single tackle in the last six contests.

There's no word on the specific team rule the pair broke.
