Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are set to clash in a pivotal Premier League showdown on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.

Both clubs currently sit inside the top eight of the league table and desperately need a victory to pull within striking range of league-leading Arsenal.

Spurs are searching for their first EPL win in the month of November, while City have been anxiously awaiting an opportunity to rebound from their shocking 1-0 defeat at Sunderland two weeks ago. Although Andre Villas-Boas' squad has been one of the league's better road teams this year, no club has been able to trump Manuel Pellegrini's side at home in 2013-14.

However, there's a first time for everything.

With kickoff fast approaching, here we'll get you ready with everything you need to know.

Top Storyline: High-Stakes Matchup of Contenders

Sunday's clash between City and Tottenham is one of the best matchups of the season on paper. Adding to the intrigue are the critical points at stake.

With a sixth victory at Etihad, City would leapfrog Tottenham in the table and inch closer to the top. On the other hand, a Spurs win would propel Tottenham even further up the standings and ensure that they remain within range of the top clubs.

Plus, with both clubs having suffered 1-0 defeats their last time out, the loser of Sunday's match will be faced with immense pressure in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the winner will have likely achieved contender status.

Clearly, the stakes are sky-high in this matchup, and you can expect to be reminded of that throughout.

Prediction

The Citizens have been lights-out at home this season, winning all five of their EPL matches at Etihad. What's more, City have outscored those five opponents by a combined mark of 20-2. Seventeen EPL teams have yet to score 20 goals total this season.

Consequently, Spurs will need to play a sensational match from start to finish in order to come away with even one point this weekend.

With one of the EPL's leading goalscorers in Sergio Aguero on their side, City are sure to prevail on Sunday. Aguero was held in check by Sunderland at Stadium of Light two weeks ago but has scored four goals over the Citizens' last three Premier League matchups at home.

At the same time, Spurs leading scorer Roberto Soldado's production has been spotty at best.

Watch for City to bounce back in a big way this weekend in Manchester.

Manchester City 3, Tottenham Hotspur 1
