Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin is kind of a big deal in Houston. How popular is he? Defensive coordinator Mark Snyder recently compared him to Justin Bieber, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Brent Zwerneman.
Sumlin and Snyder each took their daughters to a Drake concert in Houston last week. The 49-year-old head coach apparently attracts a big crowd when he goes out and about in the city.
At Texas A&M's weekly press conference on Tuesday, Snyder came up with an odd comparison.
“It was like any dad going to a concert with his daughters, but it was a little different going with coach Sumlin. He’s a little bit like Justin Bieber when he goes out in Houston,” Snyder said, chuckling. “He’s going to kill me for saying that.”
That's probably not who the coach would like to be compared to, but it shows just how big he is in the city. It's important to note that he was the head coach at the University of Houston from 2008 to 2011.
Sumlin's success with the Aggies has certainly helped his popularity in the state of Texas.
