After a brutal matchup Sunday night at the 2013 edition of WWE’s Survivor Series, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan were victorious over Erick Rowan and Luke Harper of the Wyatt Family via clean pinfall.
Punk and Bryan are two of the biggest stars in the WWE today, and their victory over the Wyatt Family is a huge step in the process of getting back to the main event for each man.
The company will likely book the rematch to appease all of the Punk and Bryan fans by getting them on December's PPV card, but this tag team battle is a holdover and more likely to spawn a long-term one-on-one feud between Bray Wyatt and Punk.
Bryan should be moving back to the WWE Championship scene at or around the Royal Rumble, so booking one more match against the Wyatt Family at Tables, Ladders & Chairs is a smart course of action.
The battle between the Wyatt Family and the duo of Punk and Bryan started after Hell in a Cell when both former WWE champions were attacked by Harper and Rowan. Those beatings resulted in a promo that featured Bray Wyatt claiming the devil made him do it.
The devil Wyatt referenced will likely play a major role in this storyline. Whether it’s Triple H, Paul Heyman or even Vince McMahon, it’s clear something much larger is boiling below the surface in this storyline.
Since the initial attack, Punk and Bryan continued to hold off the Wyatt Family. Sunday’s match was the first time these four men faced off in an exclusive tag team match, but the bout’s outcome makes it clear this is far from the end of the storyline.
Overall Match Grade: A-
There is no question that this match was well executed. Punk and Bryan are two of the best in-ring workers in the wrestling industry today, and each lived up to those expectations Sunday night.
Bryan has become the most reliable worker in the company today. Each and every match he performs steals the show, and the fans are genuinely intrigued by his work. Punk is also full of charisma and talent, and he complemented Bryan to perfection in the match against the Wyatt Family.
Which superstar is the better in-ring performer?
Using a unique mix of power and athleticism, Rowan and Harper are two of the better big men in the WWE right now. Rowan is limited in his technical skills, but makes up for it with brute strength and brawling ability. On the other hand, Harper has the Kane-like ability to mix freakish power with speed and accuracy.
The mixture of size, speed and strength made this a great match and helped it steal the show as the match of the night.
