Quin Blanding's Scouting Report: Strengths

2 of 8

Likely weighing more than his listed size of 200 pounds, Blanding has a long 6'2" frame that has good definition. He plays with rare instincts and awareness, as he is an intelligent player on the third level.

Blanding has great route-recognition skills, plus he doesn't allow himself to be manipulated by the eyes of quarterbacks during his backpedal. He displays outstanding transition quickness to shoot off his mark to get to the football. Blanding doesn't take many false steps, thanks to being blessed with loose hips and quick feet.

With his excellent speed, Blanding plays with tremendous range. He can be left as a single-high safety, as he's capable of helping cornerbacks on either side. The future Cavalier also has no issues playing man coverage versus tight ends, plus he flashes some ability to stay attached to quick slot receivers.

He exhibits impressive ball skills and hands to intercept throws when attacking passing lanes.

Blanding also projects as a complete safety due to his willingness to support the run. He is not afraid to roll into the box to track running backs, plus he is a solid tackler in space. Virginia is getting one of the best safety prospects in a decade.

Quin Blanding's Scouting Report: Weaknesses

3 of 8

Blanding could stand to improve his technique in man coverage. With more teams running spread attacks and multiple-receiver sets, he will be asked to play like a cornerback at times in Charlottesville.

His athleticism and instincts should help him be fine in this department, as all Blanding needs is some seasoning.

He also needs to add more strength to help him hold his own in the box versus running plays.
