Arizona State was upset by UCLA a year ago, but the Odds Shark computer is picking the Sun Devils to beat the Bruins this time around. They are motivated to win big here to creep into BCS-bowl consideration against a UCLA team that has won three in a row since getting smacked by the Pac 12 elite in October.

Point spread: Arizona State opened as two-point road favorites; the total was 62 early in the week. (Line updates and matchup report)

Odds Shark computer prediction: 40-36 Arizona State

Why Arizona State can cover the spread

Blame why the Sun Devils are playing so well as of late on the defense. Take it back about four weeks, and ASU's stop unit is playing the best it has all season. The Devils have inched up to No. 17 in the rankings, and by winning their sixth straight, they might approach BCS-bowl status.

Arizona State also has a knack of winning as road chalk, as their 11-2 SU run in 13 recent games proves.

Why UCLA can cover the spread

UCLA has won three straight since back-to-back losses against conference powerhouses Stanford and Oregon. The Bruins are getting exceptional play from sophomore quarterback Brett Hundley, as he's finding ways to make plays for his unit and extend drives when you think the Bruins are dead.

They have also dominated ASU over the years at 8-2 ATS overall and 5-0 ATS at home, according to the Odds Shark college football database.

Smart Pick

The home underdog appears to be the value play here, as there is balance on both sides of the ball and plenty of balance on offense alone to count on the Bruins. Joining Hundley in the backfield has been freshman Myles Jack, who has five touchdowns in two games. Big game for UCLA. Look for an outright.

  • Arizona State is just 2-8 ATS in 10 games vs. UCLA
  • UCLA is 5-0 ATS past five at home to Sun Devils
  • Arizona State is 11-2 SU in 13 recent games as road favorites
  • UCLA is 7-3 ATS past 10 games as home underdogs
