Intense, improving, and an unquenchable thirst to dominate are all terms that could accurately apply to the NFC South division.
Composed of the New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Atlanta Falcons, the NFC South could possibly be one of the toughest divisions in the ever-competitive NFL this upcoming season.
With two of the four teams making it to the playoffs last year, fans in each city are expecting nothing less than a winning season in this deep division.
Shoring up some holes in their defensive game by making some strategic changes amongst the defensive coordinators (three of the four teams within the NFC South recently hired new defensive coordinators), fans should expect for this division to do some big things defensively in 09.
Additionally, the NFC South already possessed what some might argue as the most explosive offenses, top-to-bottom, among contenders in the National Conference. I think that any of the four teams in the division definitely have a chance of scoring spots within the playoffs, and ultimately the Super Bowl.
Boasting of players such as Tony Gonzalez (TE, Falcons), Drew Brees (QB, Saints), Antonio Bryant (WR, Buccaneers), and DeAngelo Williams (RB, Panthers), the NFC South is definitely a division to contend, with just as much offensively as they are starting to become defensively.
While researching this division, I was reminded of an old slogan that the NFC South is hoping to prove true in 2009: offense sells tickets, but defense wins championships.
As the season nears closer and the fans begin rallying in support of their favorite teams, let’s see if they can pull it off either way and take us to the playoffs.
