JJ Mann and the Belmont Bruins marched into Chapel Hill and upset the Tar Heels on Sunday.
Belmont is at it again.
Senior JJ Mann led the Bruins (3-1, 0-0 OVC) with 28 points and nine rebounds, hitting a clutch three with 14 seconds left to give his team a come-from-behind 83-80 victory over No. 12 North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Sunday afternoon.
It was a stunning ending to a great back and forth game which appeared to be well in the Tar Heels hands in the final minutes. They led 80-75 with just under a minute to play, but Belmont finished on an eight-to-nothing run to cap off an improbable comeback.
North Carolina was led by junior forward John Michael McAdoo with a career-high 27 points and 13 boards. He was clutch in the second-half, but it wasn't enough for the Heels to overcome an absolutely abysmal day at the free-throw line.
They were just 22 of 48 from the stripe, which was good for only 46 percent.
Belmont, by contrast, did what they do well. They chucked up 37 shots from behind the arc, and they connected on 15 of them. They were also 20 of 22 from the line, which was nearly double the Tar Heels at 91 percent.
The Tar Heels will have some time off to regroup before their next game. They host Richmond on Saturday.
Belmont, on the other hand, will have to turn it around quickly. They host Lipscomb on Wednesday.
