    UFC 167 hails from Las Vegas, and the UFC Welterweight Championship will be on the line in the main event.

    Champion Georges St-Pierre defends against No. 1-ranked contender Johny Hendricks in one of the most highly anticipated bouts of 2013.

    The 12-fight event will serve as the company's 20th anniversary celebration.

    Official Result: GSP defeats Hendricks by split decision (47-48, 48-47, 48-47)

    Reaction: The fight was not that close, and Hendricks got rooked out of the title. Then GSP maybe, kind of, sort of retires. I'm not quite sure what to make of it all aside from Hendricks being jobbed by MMA judging.

Rashad Evans vs. Chael Sonnen

    Round 1

    Sonnen right out as usual. He shoots, but Evans defends. Evans reverses position and puts Sonnen's back against the fence, but Sonnen spins him around. Fighting for position. Evans drops for a takedown, but Sonnen threatens with a guillotine. They briefly separate and exchange, but nothing of note lands and they clinch again. Evans drops down with a double, and completes the takedown. Evans is picking his shots. Big shot from Evans. Sonnen gives up his back. Evans starting to pour it on, and he gets mount. Big punches. It's over. Sonnen tapped to strikes.

    Quick, easy. Evans dominated Sonnen like he was supposed to. Evans looked good.

Rory MacDonald vs. Robbie Lawler

    They meet in the center of the cage right away. Lawler throwing the low leg kick repeatedly. MacDonald lands a right. MacDonald makes Lawler circle on the outside. Another low kick from Lawler. MacDonald remains methodical. Lawler backs up MacDonald. Lawler lands an uppercut as MacDonald catches a leg.

    Round 2

    MacDonald tries to take Lawler down, but Lawler stays upright. They get back to a striking range. Good body kick from Lawler. Lawler lands a right over the top. MacDonald keeps throwing the front kick, but it doesn't have much behind it. MacDonald takes Lawler down. Lawler begins to work to his feet, but MacDonald stays on top. MacDonald postures up and throws elbows.

    Lawler hits MacDonald hard, and MacDonald takes Lawler down. Mario Yamasaki stands them up. Lawler tries to let his hands go, but MacDonald takes him down. Lawler wins the scramble and ends up on top. MacDonald gets full guard. Lawler tells MacDonald to get up. Good left from Lawler. Accidental eye poke. Lawler defends another takedown. Lawler drops MacDonald! MacDonald throws his legs up looking for a submission of some sort. Lawler in side control. MacDonald gets back to half-guard. Lawler back to side control. Big punch from Lawler on the ground. They stand again. Lawler walking him down. MacDonald gets a takedown. He tries to throw elbows as the round ends!

    Lawler defeats MacDonald by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

     

    Wow! I did not expect that! Lawler was able to get inside the range of MacDonald and found success over and over. MacDonald got a couple takedowns, but did not use them to damage Lawler. The long-time veteran eventually found MacDonald's chin and put him down. That is a huge result for Lawler.

Josh Koscheck vs. Tyron Woodley

    Woodley drops Koscheck with a right, and lands a knee. Koscheck searching for a takedown. Herb Dean separates them. Woodley lands a right, and a big leg kick. Koscheck lands a straight. Woodley clips Koscheck, and he is laying in some big ground and pound. Koscheck holding on. Woodley moves him against the fence. Herb Dean stands them up. Big shot from Woodley, and it's over!

    Straight power. Koscheck's time as a high-level welterweight is over.

Tim Elliott vs. Ali Bagautinov

    Elliott is out to the center of the cage right away. Bagautinov misses with a big right hand. Still a feeling out process two minutes into the fight. They clinch and Elliott lands a good knee to the midsection. Bagautinov rocks Elliott with a big punch. Bagautinov takes Elliott down briefly, but he pops right back up. Bagautinov tries to turn up the pace at the end of the round, but most of his offense misses. He does land a couple solid strikes.

    Round 2

    A slow start to the second round. Elliott goes for an arm-in guillotine and it looks tight. Bagautinov slams his way out of it. Elliott gets top position, but they get to their feet shortly afterward. Not a lot of success for either man on the fight. Tight round.

    Round 3

    They are trying to exchange, but nothing clean is landing. Very sloppy. Elliott lands a straight left. Bagautinov lands. Elliott puts together a combination. This is another close round thanks in part to ineffective striking. Bagautinov goes for a takedown, but doesn't get it. Bagautinov lands. Elliott gets a takedown, but Bagautinov is right back up at the horn. Very close round, very close fight.

    Not the best of fights, but neither fighter could find much success. I'm not sure if there is a wrong score for this fight. It was close.

Donald Cerrone vs. Evan Dunham

    Dunham immediately comes forward. Cerrone starts to walk him down, and Dunham begins to circle. Cerrone lands a knee, and senses he hurt him. Cerrone comes forward and lands a big punch! Cerrone is all over him. Dunham surviving on the ground! Dunham gets to top position, and Cerrone uses an omaplata to sweep. Dunham stands, and he has Cerrone pressed against the cage. Big knee from Cerrone. One more. Cerrone is picking Dunham apart on the feet. Good round.

    Round 2

    Strong knee to the midsection from Cerrone. Dunham is not finding much success in these exchanges. Dunham lands a decent right. Cerrone lands a knee, and Dunham goes forward looking for a takedown. Cerrone takes Dunham down. Cerrone locks in a triangle. He rolls him over, and that is it!

    Cerrone looked very good tonight. He had no problems with Dunham at all. Cerrone's takedown and submission was a fantastic way to end the fight. Cerrone will move up a position or two in the official rankings. If he continues fighting this way he will be right back in the mix for a title shot.

Ed Herman vs. Thales Leites

    Round 1

    Leites connects with Herman, and Herman is down. I'm not sure if that staggered Herman, or if it merely knocked him off balance. Leites in half-guard. Herman works to his feet. Leites tries to trip him back down, but Herman stays upright. Leites got it on the second attempt. Leites gets his back. Leites is completely controlling Herman, but he isn't able to go for a submission just yet. Herman is back up.

    They exchange early in the second, but Leites shoots in. Leites trips Herman down. Leites has his back again. Control from Leites.

    They clinch. Herman trying to land an uppercut inside. They separate. Herman lands a left on the break. They clinch again. Herman is on the mat again. Leites has his back.

Brian Ebersole vs. Rick Story

    Story trying to dig to the body. Ebersole is avoiding the brutal body shots thus far, but Story is digging in. This is a methodical pace. Story is just waiting for opportunities to throw the big shots, and Ebersole is taking his time. A left from Story sneaks through. Story lands one of the body shots. Big leg kick from Story. Story lands in an exchange. Story lands a punch to the thigh. Ebersole lands a straight.

    Round 2

    Story pushes for a takedown, gets it and Ebersole is active on bottom. They get back to their feet. More of the same from the first round. Ebersole lands a good elbow, and a jab. Story continuing to throw heavy shots in. Ebersole is defending them, but his arms are absorbing the punishment. Story lands a nice right, and Ebersole lands one of his own.

    High takes Ebersole down. They are back up. Story throws another hard right hand. Ebersole is durable that is for sure. When they exchange it is Story's power that is the difference. He hurts Ebersole with a strong leg kick. Ebersole lands an elbow on a break. Another big leg kick. Another one drops Ebersole.

    Story defeats Ebersole by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

     

    This wasn't a great fight, but Story was in control from the outset. His power was the difference. It was a much needed win for Story, and perhaps we will see an even better version of him in his next UFC outing.

Erik Perez vs. Edwin Figueroa

    These two open up with strikes early. Figueroa eats a hard kick to the groin. There'll be a pause in the action for sure. Back to action we go. Perez shoots in, but Figueroa defends well to start. Perez finally gets him down. Figueroa stands, but Perez stays heavy on his back. They separate. Push kick sits Figueroa on his butt. Right hand from Perez lands. Straight right by Perez lands. Figueroa throws a body kick, and Perez takes him down off of it. They go back to their feet, but Perez takes him down again.

    Round 2

    Perez drops Figueroa with a right! Figueroa is trying to swing and land something, and Perez is more measured. Perez shoots in, picks him up and slams him. Perez in side control. Figueroa is trying to work his way to his feet, but Perez sticks to him like glue. They finally separate. Figueroa lands a straight right hand. Another one lands. Perez shoots in and takes the fight to the mat. Perez is staying active from top position, but he isn't landing any devastating shots. Kim Winslow stands them up for no apparent reason at the end of the round. Awful.

    Round 3

    Errant strikes in the first minute. Perez misses with a wheel kick. Perez lands another takedown. Perez is controlling Figueroa while seeking an arm-triangle choke. Figueroa gets to his feet, but Perez lands a knee and then takes him right back down. Perez lands a counter right.

    Perez showed off his developed skills and quality fight IQ. He controlled the fight, but it wasn't anything to write home about.

Jason High vs. Anthony Lapsley

    Lapsley comes forward, and High takes him down immediately. High tries passing, but Lapsley is defending. High mounts. Lapsley gives up his back. High is remaining patient. Lapsley moves toward the fence. Lapsley stands. High takes him back down. High stays heavy on him, and goes for the guillotine. He misses it, but gets back to a strong position. High spins to the back. High slams Lapsley. Back mount. Rear-naked attempt, but he just misses. High mounts again. Lapsley spins to his stomach, and High takes his back. High stands, spins around and lands a knee to the body. High goes for the guillotine. He rolls him over with it! He lets go of it. All High.

    Round 2

    Lapsley comes forward, and High gets his hands on him. High gets the mount in a brief scramble. High takes the back. High goes back to mount, but Lapsley gives up his back again. Lapsley reverses and takes top position. High is trying to tie Lapsley up. Lapsley slips in an elbow. Good elbow from Lapsley. High tries to stand, but Lapsley moves to half-guard. Lapsley is looking for a Kimura. Lapsley lands another elbow.

    High lands a right. High takes Lapsley down. High passes to side control. Lapsley is working his way back to his feet by using the cage. High stays heavy on him. High sits back with a guillotine. Lapsley gets out, but High tries to throw up an omaplata. He loses it, and Lapsley is on top. High drives on a leg in order to stand. He sprawls on Lapsley, and back on top. Lapsley stands, gets High's back. High rolls on a leg. Lapsley defends and takes High's back. Lapsley slips off the back, and High is back on top. High ends the round on top.

    High defeats Lapsley by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

     

    A very fun grappling fight between Lapsley and High. High's wrestling and submission attempts won the night, but Lapsley's defense was noteworthy. Quality fight.

Will Campuzano vs. Sergio Pettis

    Campuzano shoots in and takes Pettis down. Pettis searching for a guillotine, and uses it to get up. Campuzano puts Pettis on his back again. Pettis' guard is very active. Pettis works to his feet, but Campuzano is still attached to him. Pettis lands a knee to the body. Strong combination by Pettis. Campuzano lands a leg kick, and Pettis answers. Pettis lands another strong leg kick. Campuzano's leg may be hurt. Pettis lands a good combination. Pettis is very composed. Pettis throws a flying knee, but Campuzano takes him down off of it. It'll be interesting to see how the judges score that round.

    Round 2

    Pettis lands frequently as Campuzano comes forward. They are exchanging. Pettis takes Campuzano down. Pettis goes for a power guillotine, but Campuzano defends. Pettis threatening with a Kimura now, but he lets it go. Pettis tries to take the back, but Campuzano spins into his guard. Excellent ground work from both men. Pettis is not taking damage yet. Campuzano takes Pettis' back. Pettis stands with Campuzano on his back. Pettis reverses position, and now Pettis is working from Campuzano's half-guard. Campuzano pushes Pettis off, and they stand. Pettis lands a strong knee to the head!

    Round 3

    Pettis lands a body kick. Campuzano searches for the takedown, and Pettis tries the power guillotine again. Campuzano is out. Campuzano takes Pettis down. Pettis' defense from bottom is strong. He is not taking damage. Campuzano is controlling the position. Pettis throws his legs up for a triangle, but Campuzano is defending well. Pettis pushes Campuzano off, and they are back to their feet. Campuzano shoots in, but Pettis sprawls. Pettis takes Campuzano's back, but then they stand. The round ends with a Pettis takedown.

    Pettis defeats Campuzano by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

     

    This was an evenly matched fight, and a great test for Pettis' first UFC fight. He entered with a lot of hype, and this puts into perspective where he is at in his career. Campuzano, on the other hand, got to show his skills after a failed 0-2 try in his first UFC go around.

Gian Villante vs. Cody Donovan

    They exchange in the clinch right away. Donovan is landing some shots early. Donovan throws a high kick and flurries afterwards. Nice right hand by Donovan. Villante has landed a couple strikes, but Donovan is clearly winning early on. Leg kick from Villante. Villante catches a kick and puts Donovan on his back. 90 seconds to do damage or find a submission. Donovan gets to full guard. Donovan goes for an armbar, and Villante just lets him up. Donovan continues to land on the feet.

    Round 2

    Donovan puts Villante against the fence. Donvovan throws a head kick, but Villante's right hand connects first. Donovan falls and Villante follows up. Kim Winslow stops the bout. Nice win.

     

    Villante defeats Donovan by TKO at 1:22 of the second round

     

    Villante didn't look very sharp, but all it takes is one clean punch. A good win for Villante.
