I wanted to write an article about sports movies, but I couldn’t decide on my approach. The main issue I ran into was the various types of sports movies. We have a range from documentaries to comedies. So I put a list of five movies that if I see on the TV, I can’t walk away from. I know the list is strange, but for some reason I love these movies. I'd love to hear some of the sports movies you cannot walk away from.

Friday Night Lights

This is a movie I’m a little embarrassed that I like so much. When I watch it, part of me thinks it is a dumb teen movie. But then the football comes back in and I’m hooked again. Really, the only reason this movie is on the list is because I love one scene…

Favorite Part: When the drunken dad gives his son his ring. That and knowing that the coach put the championship in his hands.

Major League

I don’t really care much for any other than the first one. They are good, but nowhere close. It’s just fun watching the movie. I love the characters and the fact that it’s a good sports movie too, makes it a great movie.

Favorite Part: The announcer or when Willie wakes up outside.

Remember the Titans

This is certainly a guilty pleasure movie for me. It’s got a good mixture of storytelling, comedy, and drama. Probably one of the most complete sports movies.

Favorite Part: When Coach Yoast says this gem “All right, now, I don't want them to gain another yard! You blitz... all... night! If they cross the line of scrimmage, I'm gonna take every last one of you out! You make sure they remember, forever, the night they played the Titans!”

What’s not to like any these movies? I could do without the last two, but the rest are amazing. I love his transition from being a bum, who can’t even get respect in his gym, to someone who captures the heart of an entire city.

Favorite Part: The montages! Or Apollo. “I want you!”

Rudy

My personal favorite movie of any genre is Rudy. I can watch that kid keep fighting to play for Notre Dame all day. This movie is the perfect movie for those of us who loved playing sports, but were not gifted with much talent.

Favorite Part: The chanting. I can’t imagine having the feeling of having my team chant my name, let alone my whole team.
