Diamondbacks-Padres: Arizona Wins Despite Second Straight Bullpen Blowup

Jabber HeadSenior Analyst IMay 27, 2009

This is getting old.

After another outstanding performance by an Arizona Diamondbacks starter, on this night Max Scherzer, the bullpen came in and almost blew another one. They hung on to defeat the San Diego Padres 6-5.

It was close, though. Real close. The Padres' Kevin Kouzmanoff sent a ride to deep right-center field with a runner on third in the ninth only to fly out and help the D'backs snap the Padres' 10-game winning streak.

Scherzer was outstanding. Not only did he strike out 10 at the plate, he also had two RBI with a double and single. He did it all.

Too bad he can’t go the distance every time out to keep the bullpen out of the game. Let’s just replace them and send up a whole new bullpen from Reno and Mobile. It can’t be any worse than what we have now.

Tomorrow Billy Buckner goes up against Jake Peavy. Enough said.

This is getting old.
