The Miz at a PR event
WWE Studios has released the trailer for Christmas Bounty, its upcoming comedy film starring Mike "The Miz" Mizanin.
The movie, which co-stars Francia Raisa of The Secret Life of the American Teenager fame, is due to air on ABC Family on November 26 at 7:00 p.m. ET. It's scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 3 the following week.
Christmas Bounty revolves around a bounty hunter turned elementary school teacher who returns home during the holidays to find that her violent past has caught up with her. She's forced to work with her ex-boyfriend (The Miz, who looks uncannily like a member of The Shield here) and, inevitably, sparks fly.
Of course, this is hardly the first time fans have been treated to a Christmas movie with wrestlers.
In 2005, straight-to-DVD horror flick Santa's Slay was released. This movie featured WCW legend Bill Goldberg as an evil, demonic Santa Claus who, rather than giving out gifts, spends most of Christmas Eve attempting to violently murder everyone in sight.
Yes, this is every bit as awesome as it sounds. Unsurprisingly, Santa's Slay has become something of a cult classic amongst wrestling fans. It really is worth going out of your way to check out.
If Santa's Slay was so-bad-it's-good, 1996 Hulk Hogan's vehicle Santa With Muscles is so bad it's...well, absolutely dreadful.
Hogan played Blake, a mega-rich but immoral body-builder who, on the run from the cops, dresses up as Santa Claus at a nearby mall to avoid detection. Then, thanks to a bump on the head, Blake begins to think he is Santa Claus. Hilarity does not ensue.
Oh, and there's also some evil villain who wants to destroy the local orphanage because, well, he's an evil villain and that's what they do. Blake has to stop him, which he does, in suitably heroic fashion.
Santa with Muscles is widely considered the worst of Hogan's movies, which is really saying something considering some of the disasters he has starred in over the years.
It's even listed at No. 65 on the IMDB bottom 100, coming ahead of such bad cinema classics as Troll 2, Battlefield Earth and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians.
Hopefully Christmas Bounty will avoid a similar fate.
