WWE Raw Results: Winners, Report Card and Highlights from Nov. 11

    via WWE.com

The framework of a great angle has been built over the last few months. The idea, in brief, was to create a new "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, pitting the everyman against the evil corporate wrestling monolith.

Unfortunately, Daniel Bryan was a bust at the box office. Whether that was his fault, or a product of an angle designed to make him look weak, is in the eye of the beholder. Numbers, however, are tangible and beyond dispute. Business, in life and storyline, was down with Bryan on top.

As the caretakers of the company, it was up to Triple H and Stephanie McMahon to do what's best for business. That meant making a change.

But the angle? It was too good to go.

Bryan is out, back on the undercard where he can create some excitement around acts looking to make it big. In his spot on top? The biggest act of all—Paul Wight, better known as the Big Show. It's Show who is now the focus of McMahon and Helmsley's wrath and the recipient of a WWE title shot on pay-per-view.

That's the storyline as it stands. As it stood last week, too. As usual when the promotion goes overseas, Raw was mostly a placeholder. Not much was done to advance the plot at all. It was just more.

Of course, that doesn't mean it wasn't amazing. The show may not have been connected to anything bigger, but as stand-alone wrestling bouts, the matches on this show delivered in a major way. I've graded every major segment and match from A to F. Disagree? Let me know in the comments.

Randy Orton vs. Goldust/Cody Rhodes

2 of 11

    via WWE.com

    Result

    • Brad Maddox and Kane argued about who was in charge with Stephanie and Triple H on vacation. Kane wants Randy Orton to wrestle Goldust. Maddox wants him to wrestle Cody Rhodes. Eventually Vickie Guerrero inserted herself into the discussion and decided on a handicap match.
    • Goldust and Cody Rhodes beat Randy Orton by countout. Big Show came down and chokeslammed Orton through the announce table.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

"I'm going to get right to it. Looks like Big Show got his job back. He also blackmailed his way into a title match with me at Survivor Series. But if any of you saw the beat down that the Shield and I gave Show last week, I think you'll agree with me when I say I'm going to be victorious at Survivor Series." —Randy Orton. Hey, that's a pretty good summary of last week's show!

"You sold out! You sold out!" —crowd to Kane

"I said 'Excuse me.'" —Vickie Guerrero, constantly interrupted by the crowd

    Grade

    B-

    Analysis

The crowd really helped what could have been an awful opening segment. You've got to love the fire that flows through the veins of British wrestling fans. Or maybe it's beer? Either way, they make things fun.

The match itself was worked at a languid pace. Things slowed down so much that the crowd started chanting for the announcers. Scratch what I said earlier. It's one thing to interrupt Brad Maddox. But Goldust? That's sacred ground.

Eventually Orton got himself counted out, and Big Show came out to give him an old-fashioned whooping. There was nothing wrong with this formulaic booking. But it left me feeling cold. Part of the problem is Orton. He never seems to care. Why should I?

Los Matadores/Santino vs. the Union Jacks

3 of 11

    Result

Santino pinned Jinder Mahal with the Cobra.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

Santino's bull horns made me smile.

3MB coming out as the Union Jacks.

"i can't believe the referee doesn't consider those horns foreign objects." —Michael Cole. So true. Jack Tunney would have never allowed it.

Santino's cobra has a special set of horns.

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

To call this filler is an insult to filler.

Damien Sandow vs. Kofi Kingston

4 of 11

    Result

Damien Sandow pinned Kofi Kingston with the You're Welcome.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

"The official needs to get control here. Sandow is on a tear." —Jerry Lawler as Sandow comes out with a scary ferocity

Sandow's finisher is a pretty cool move.

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

Not sure if they turned the volume on the crowd down or if they died. Either way, it took a lot of energy away from this match. Not that it was anything special to begin with. Sandow, after not even getting a perfunctory run with the title, is simply treading water at this point. Kingston drowned months ago.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Curtis Axel (Intercontinental Title)

5 of 11

    Result

Curtis Axel beat Dolph Ziggler with his finisher.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

"Let's go Ziggler! Let's go Ziggler!" —the crowd, loving Ziggler as they should

"And with that, Curtis Axel has been perfect." —JBL. I see what you did. Perfect. Get it?

Ziggler wins the battle of dropkicks, getting higher and hitting harder.

Ziggler takes a crazy bump over the top rope from the ever-deadly Irish whip.

    Axel's snap back suplex.

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

Really solid match between two guys who know how to get it done. Unfortunately, Axel wasn't the most thrilling guy in the world even with Heyman in his corner. Without him? Even a weekly match with Dolph Ziggler isn't enough to make him compelling.

It's interesting that, if you didn't know better, you'd think Ziggler was actually Curt Hennig's son. He has the same over-the-top style that made prime Mr. Perfect such a fun midcarder. Axel? I'm afraid he's closer to Erik Watts than he is to Dustin Rhodes.

Tamina Snuka vs. Nikki Bella

6 of 11

    via WWE.com

    Result

Tamina beat Nikki Bella with her Superfly Splash.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

"That's the hottest thing since sunburn."—Jerry Lawler on Total Divas

Tamina with a really hard powerslam.

"We want tables. We want tables." —the crowd, clap, clap, clap clap clap

Tamina lands on Nikki's leg on her finisher. That didn't look fun.

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

Do they not get Total Divas in England? This was actually a pretty solid little match. But the crowd was just not having it.

Tyson Kidd vs. Fandango

7 of 11

    Result

Fandango reversed a sunset flip for the win.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

Total Divas footage shows Kidd being unreasonably jealous of his wife, you know, doing her job.

"I heard Pippa is a big fan." —JBL, on Fandango

Tyson Kidd tossed over the top rope just as the announcers discuss his injured leg.

"Don't bring your wife to work."—JBL, solving the problems between Kidd and Natalya

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

Wow. Two weeks back and Tyson Kidd is doing a clean job to Fandango? So much for the idea of the Total Divas push. I'm not a huge fan of Kidd's "1997 Nitro cruiserweight match" style. But even I'd agree that he deserves a better shot than this after being out for more than a year.

John Cena vs. the Real Americans

8 of 11

    Result

John Cena made Jack Swagger tap to the STF. After the match, Alberto Del Rio went after Cena's injured arm. "Big E" Langston made the save.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

"Here tonight we're standing on a foreign land. And what is that land? It's full of imperialists. It's full of soccer thugs. It's full of bad food. And it's full of evil monarch. Plus it's full of people who actually find the antics of Mr. Bean hilarious." —Zeb Colter on England.

"We the people!" —Despite all that, the crowd chanted along with the heels.

    "Let's go Cena."

"Cena sucks." —Cena makes crowds schizophrenic.

"Are you kidding me gringo? I'm here because my friend JBL invited me." —Alberto Del Rio, explaining why he's on commentary

Cool looking neck breaker by Cena on Antonio Cesaro.

    Grade

    A-

    Analysis

Cena and Cesaro had amazing physical chemistry in the ring. There's a match I hope to see main-event a pay-per-view down the road. For now, this will do nicely.

No, I don't like to see "Super Cena" going over a tag team all by his lonesome. In fact, the booking all night long has left me shaking my head. Handicap matches are tricky—they almost inevitably leave people looking weak. But, putting that to the side, the action in this match was really, really fun to watch.

The Ryback vs. R. Truth

9 of 11

    via WWE.com

    Result

R-Truth rolled up Ryback for the win.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

"He's a bully. Just like a thug. He's got a face only mommy can love." —R. Truth raps the truth about Ryback.

    R. Truth refers to himself as "the suntan Superman."

Ryback's gorilla slam into a powerslam combo. Nice spot.

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

I enjoyed R. Truth's custom rap. Beyond that? I was about as excited as the crowd. Considering they sat in silence, that's all you really need to know.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Big E Langston

10 of 11

    via WWE.com

    Result

Alberto Del Rio makes "Big E" Langston tap to a cross armbreaker.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

"This Big E is explosive. Just unbridled power." —JBL on Langston. I'd comment on his racial coding, except he's totally right.

"Mexico's greatest export. A great man, Alberto Del Rio." —JBL

The Manchester crowd does the wave. JBL says he hopes Cole drowns.

"The splash to go with the wave." —JBL was on fire.

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

An abrupt finish stopped what looked like a good thing in its tracks. I'm high on Langston's potential. He's got the potential to be a very good Ivan Putski-style midcard babyface. He just needs a little boost to get there.

Paul Heyman Interview and C.M Punk/Daniel Bryan vs. The Shield

11 of 11

    via WWE.com

    Result

    • Paul Heyman comes out to blame C.M Punk, Ryback and the fans for his current state. He has a neck brace, crutches and is rolling in a wheelchair. C.M Punk came out, knocked out Curtis Axel, dumped Heyman from his wheelchair and viciously caned him.
    • Punk had Ambrose trapped in the Anaconda Vice when The Wyatts interfered. The Wyatt Family and The Shield squared off before deciding to go after Punk and Bryan together. The babyface locker room emptied to save them and the show went off the air with a celebration in the ring.

    Memorable Moments and Quotes

"This was done to me by your hero C.M Punk. I see that tickles the fancy of your obviously limited imaginations. But I assure you, C.M Punk could have never done this to me by himself. C.M Punk was never a match for Paul Heyman one-on-one. C.M Punk had a lot of help. For example—that big, ugly dummy Ryback." —Paul Heyman is back, and he's shooting!

"We all found out that when Ryback went one-on-one with C.M. Punk, he was biting off more than he could chew." —Heyman

"Ladies and gentlemen: I Paul Heyman shall return with a vengeance. And I am going to hover over C.M Punk like a sword of Damocles." —Heyman. That brought Punk out.

"If that wheelchair has a reverse on it, you better hit it." —Jerry Lawler

Charles Robinson still has his WCW haircut. And it's still a woman's haircut.

Bryan's German suplex reversal on Seth Rollins.

Dean Ambrose with a finger lock on Bryan. Too hardcore even for MMA!

The Wyatts and The Shield go at it!

    Grade

    A+

    Analysis

This was amazing. The incredible match, for once, was the least of it. When The Shield and The Wyatt Family went toe-to-toe, it was like seeing the Avengers and the Justice League squaring off. Or, maybe, the Injustice League and the Masters of Evil!

Either way, I was loving every minute of it. I don't know where they go from here. I just know that Bryan and Punk are immediately the best team in the promotion. I can't wait to see what happens next.
