Blues center Jay McClement, who would have been a restricted free agent on July 1, has signed a three-year contract extension with the club.

Here are the details: Three years, $4.35 million

2009-10: $1.4 million
2010-11: $1.45 million
2011-12: $1.5 million

Blues President John Davidson on McClement, according to Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

“I think he’s still improving. No. 1, he really has a defined role that he embraced last season. That was, he was the lead guy on the penalty kill, he was the lead guy on matchups, regarding the other team’s top lines. He’s maturing as a player in understanding what his strengths are, yet there’s still upside.”
