The 5 Most Unforgettable Oakland A's Moments of All Time

September 4, 2002: The Oakland A's had won 19 games in a row, tying the AL record. They are going for game #20 against the Kansas City Royals. Up 11-0 it seems like the A's have it in the bag. But, after many Oakland mistakes it is now 11-11. Leading off the bottom of the 9th, Scott Hatteberg pinch hits for Eric Byrnes. He drives one over the RF wall and the A's win their 20th in a row, setting an AL record.

2001 ALDS: The A's are at home battling the three-time defending World Champs, The Yankees. Down 1-0 Terrence Long doubles down the RF line and Jeremy Giambi tries to score from first. The throw from RF sails over the first baseman's head, but Jeter is there to back it up. He tosses and hits Jorge Posada at home plate who tags out Giambi. The A's would lose the game 1-0 and go on to lose the series in five games.

1972 World Series: Oakland is nursing a small lead over the heavily-favored Reds. It is the ninth inning and a drive is hit to deep left. Rudi leaps against the wall and catches the ball. This is one of the most unforgettable plays in Oakland History as they would go on to win the series against the Big Red Machine.

Rickey Herderson is tied with Lou Brock for the All Time SB record. He is on second base and takes off. The Yankees catcher has no chance and Rickey steals base # 939 easily to set the all time record. Then he gives his famous "I am the greatest of all time" speech. He would go on to steal 1,406 bases.

This is definitely the most unforgettable and(if you are an A's fan) heartbreaking A's moment of all time. In the bottom of the ninth during game one of the '88 World Series, an injured Gibson comes up to the plate to face the best closer in the game, Dennis Eckersley. He works the count to 3-2 and then hits a backdoor slider into the RF bleachers for a game-ending homer. This gave the Dodgers momentum that would carry them to an easy five-game series win.
