The Carolina Panthers held the San Francisco 49ers to only 151 yards of total offense in a slugfest at Candlestick Park on Sunday. Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly were at the forefront of this huge road win in Week 10, stating their case across the league as playoff contenders.
The Panthers will no doubt be leaving the Bay Area with their heads held high.
As for the locals, they've got to deal with the aftertaste of another uncharacteristic showing by the 49ers in which they failed to run the ball, stop the run or capitalize on scoring opportunities. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick had a terrible performance, completing only 50 percent of his passes for 91 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception.
His 42.0 QB rating was his second worst of the 2013 season.
Again, Frank Gore logged under 20 total touches and the 49ers gave up a rushing touchdown—all signs that today was not their day. While they only lost by one point and led for the majority of the game, this game has the feel of a much grander loss.
Panthers 10, 49ers 9
