College Basketball: UNC Tar Heel Trio Still Undecided

Matt SmithSenior Analyst IApril 18, 2008

With Thursday night's Basketball Awards Banquet come and gone, the Tar Heel's Big Three are still undecided on their college future.

Last year at this time, Tyler Hansbrough and Tywon Lawson declared that they were returning for their junior and sophomore seasons respectively, but this year no such news came out of Chapel Hill.

Roy Williams was asked at the banquet about the player's decisions and the process leading up to their declaration about what they will do heading into the draft.  When asked about an update on their status, Williams stated that, "Not really, [there is not much of an update], because we're not finished with the process. They need to make the decision by the 27th and they'll make a decision."

Williams later went on to say that this decision was taking longer than last year because they played a week longer due to being in the Final Four this year as opposed to the Elite 8 last year.  Coach Williams said that he has met with 18 different NBA teams and he was looking to do what was best for the players and their families.

Both Lawson and Hansbrough are projected to be mid to late first round picks with Ellington rounding out the triumvirate as a late first round to an early second round draft pick.

With the April 27th deadline approaching, stay tuned for more update on the Tar Heel's draft status and who stays and goes into the upcoming season.
